A fun day was had by everyone. A special thanks goes out -to Kelly and his team of volunteers from the Kirkfield, Norland Scouting fundraiser held in Scugog PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 30, 1996 - 13 Popcorn sale beginning The First Scugog Scouting Group is planning a Popcorn Fundraiser to kick off their plans to attend the Canadian Jam- boree in Thunder Bay in July 1997. The Scouts will be working hard to make it to the Jamboree along with 12,600 other Scouts from across Canada, and the applications start going in this April. The group has chosen popcorn because it has been recognized by the American Dental and Heart Association as an ideal snack, high in protein and iron, low in cal- ories and fats. The National Cancer Insti- tute counts popcorn as a high fibre food. The Scouts recognize it as a great tasting snack. They, along with Scouts Canada have chosen Trail's End Gourmet Popcorn: as the popcorn to sell. The Scout Group has high ideals in protecting our environment and Trail's End meets those goals through its tight restrictions in pesticide use, car- tons made of recycled paper, printing inks from soybeans and their microwave bags of unbleached paper. The packaging is a tribute to Scouts and Scouting starting with its Original three Ib. Gourmet popcorn in the reusable plas- tic bucket, adorned with all the Scouts Canada Provincial Emblems. The five pack and 15 pack Gourmet Microwave popcorn butter flavor and 15 pack Gour- met Microwave butter light and then the world's best Gourmet Caramel Corn with Almonds and Pecans in a distinctive 28 oz. metal collectors tin. Trail's End popcorn is only available through Scouting, and exclusively from First Scugog Scouts. Please help these Measles shots to start From Page 1 centage of kids can contract measles if a first child- hood vaccination is ineffective. Kids were sent home with consent forms for the shots, and those are still being returned as the date for the start of the program nears, said Ms Megesi. She added that around 300 exemptions for medical or religious reasons have been granted. | Those kids won't have to have the shots, but may find themselves quarantined in the event of an outbreak. "What happens with those is if we don't have documentation of a second dose, in the event of an: outbreak those children would be excused from school... until 14 days from the onset of the last case of measles," said Ms Megesi. So far, there have been few cases of measles reported in Durham, she added. "Right now we have one confirmed case for 96, and we're monitoring two further suspects," she" said. - Scouts of the community make it to CJ 97 and help yourself to a hot healthy snack. ~ Sale begins Feb. 1 to Feb. 15, with deliv- ery in mid March.
