Novice House League play last Saturday the Van Camp Contracting team found their scoring touch on route to their victory over P.P.P. P.P.P closed off the first leading 1-0 on Todd Lance's unassisted goal. That seemed to wake up Van Camps as they scored five unanswered goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Michael Aldred got the first Van Camp goal as he fired a hard shot into the net. Brad Layzell was credited with an assist. Layzell continued his strong play collecting two of his three goals during this span. Thomas Cosgrove scored Van Camp's nicest goal as he forechecked tenaciously along the boards then cut to the net and scored on a low shot to the corner. Adam Farnley, ended his teams scoring drought banging home a shot on an excellent pass from Jeff Durward. Chris Jackson was also credited with an assist. Shawn McNamara made the score 6-2 as he picked up a pass at the blue line and skated in to beat goalie Josh Durward on a low shot. Brad Layzell completed his hat trick banging home a loose puck after a scramble in front of the P.P.P. net. The team counted goals as No. 12 scored for PPP. and Brooks Taylor scored his second. Michael Aldred rounded out Van Camp's scoring slamming home a loose puck in front. Jake Pilkey was credited with P.P.P.'s last goal as his shot deflected on a Van Camp's players skate. Game stars for the winners were Cameron O'Connor who played his best game of the season as forward, Patrick Dunn who skated hard all day and Ken Britt who stopped many opposition rushes. Andrew Britt was a deserving game star for PPP. with a strong game on defense while Chris Jackson collected two assists as a result of his determined play. Ten of the goals scored were listed as unassisted on the scoresheet. Many assists should have been noted but were overlooked by the officials. Keep up the hard work players and your efforts will be rewarded sooner than later. Peewee House League Emiels Peewee House League team had the opportunity to play two exhibition games this weekend against Aamco from Clarington Recreational Hockey League. The first game was at Scugog Arena with Emiels coming out ahead 5-3. Goals were scored by Gerrard Timmers, Mike Blakey (two), Cameron MacDonald and David Halward. Assists were awarded to Sean Williams, Mike Sytsma, Gerrard Timmers and Mark Richardson (two). Emiels goalie Shawn Martin was sizzling between the pipes, making spectacular saves throughout the game. Clarington goals went to Mitch Fontaine, Paul Wells, and Brandon Buckley. Assists went to Jamie Emond (two), and Tyler Kohn. The second game took place on Sunday evening at the Garnet Richard Community Centre in Clarington. This second game was exciting for Emiels since it would be the first "contact" game they had played. All of the boys played well, especially Shawn Martin, who once again, excelled in goal. by Michael Albert, assisted by Tyler Kohn. Emiels answered back with a goal by Mike Blakey, assisted by Mike Sytsma. Aamco went ahead again in the second period with a goal by Jamie Emond and another assist by Tyler Kohn. The third period proved to be the most exciting of the evening. Emiels managed to tie the score up again with a goal by Mike Blakey, assisted by Mike Sytsma but Aamco came back with a tie breaker scored by Jonathan Walker. Emiels pulled the goalie with one minute left in the game but just couldn't manage another score. At the end of the series, each team managed one win and one loss each. Special thanks to Emiels coaches Harvey Williams and Dan Martin for spending their weekend at the arena with all of our boys. Pineridge Atoms go down fighting Game one of the playoffs was Jan. 27 in Belleville and was very exciting with great goaltending at both ends. Peter Konstantino- poulos the full game allow- ing only one goal. Unfortunately the Pine- ridge squad could not buy a goal. Final score 1-0 for Belleville. Game two at Port Perry saw Belleville come out flying but great goaltend- ing by Andrew Fancy kept them off the board for the first period. The Pineridge squad just could not keep up causing them to take many penalties which Belleville capitalized on. Final score Belleville 5 - Port Perry 0. Game three was played Feb. 3in Belleville and the Pineridge Sports squad playoff hopes were shot down. This was another very exciting game with Port getting its first goal of the series less than two minutes into the game with B.J. Schaump scor- ing from Justin Shinn. Belleville tied the game at 1:30. Pineridge kept the pressure on and came away with goals from ~ Stormy Wootton and Jus- tin Shinn. Chris McKitte- rick and B.J. Schaump getting the assists. Belle- ville battled back to tie the game before the end of the second period. Belleville scored early in the third but Garrett Brown tied the game less than five minutes into the third. Jesse Mullins and Justin Shinn getting as- sists. Unfortunately the. Pineridge squad could not hold off the fast skating of Belleville's team 'which scored two more times for the win. The whole Port Perry team gave a great ef- fortin this one. Final score Belleville 6 - Port 4. The Port Perry Guardi- an Tween 'C' girls played three games the past week and ended up with two wins and a loss for their ef- forts. . On Tuesday they trav- elled to Ajax for a night game and came away with a 7-6 victory. Scoring for Port was Alaina (two), Shannon, Sarah, Kelly, Jessica and Courtney with her first of the year. As- sists to Sarah (two), Alai- na (two), Sheena, Colleen, Kelly, Lisa and Heather. On Saturday Ajax 1 came to town. This team had beaten us previously to give a final score of 6-2. Goreski's in playoffs On Feb. 3 our team ended up in a "AA" playoff round against Belleville. Port came out playing strongin the first period taking a 1-0 lead into the sec- ond period with a goal from Mike LeFort with assists going to Ian Garnett and Matt Skerratt. Belleville came out flying in the second period with four goals. In the third period Belleville scored two more goals and Port added one more goal by Matt Skerratt, assisted by Ian Garnett and John Burnett On Feb. 4 we travelled to Belleville for game two and again ran into a tough team. They ran the score up to 6-0. Billy Carr then blocked a shot and took off on a breakaway to give us our first goal. Trevor Weis- flock added our second goal to give us a final of 7-2. Our third game isin a couple of weeks. and our girls were eager for the rematch. The first period was back and forth with the tweens scoring early on a goal by Shan- non assisted by Jessica and Sheena. Shortly thereafter Ajax tied it up. Before the period ended Shannon scored again from Sheena. In the second Ajax tied it again. Port took the lead when Heather scored an unassisted goal. The visi- tors regained the tie be- Tweens keep winning fore Sarah, from Lisa, net- ted the winner. Port 4 - Ajax 3. Sundays game against Markham was the first loss of the second half of the season. We had nu- merous scoring opportuni- ties but couldn't capitalize against a solid Markham goalie. Scoring for Port was Sa- 'rah (three) and assists to Alaina (two). Final Mark- ham 7 - Port 3. Ladies broomball Port Perry Merchants 6 - Woods 0 It was the last regular game before the playoffs start. Merchants opened the scoreboard at 4:30 into the first with Jenna Pearce scoring her first goal assisted by Marie Woodrow. Other goals scored by Tamara Eng- lish assisted by Colleen Smith. Thirty seconds later Colleen Smith was in action again assisting the next goal by Fran Misner. Christy Mackin- non started the second with an unassisted goal. Forty seconds later Christy Mackinnon scored again with Fran Misner assisting. With only six minutes left in the game, Tamara English scored again. Peggy Pearce recorded the shutout for the Port Perry Merchants. Woody's put up a good fight with Nancy Hurren making a lot of key stops in net to keep them in the game, but came up short. Great game by all. Best season in a long time.
