IGA Juniors win Well, if you missed the IGA Jr. B's on Sunday you missed one heck of a game. There was lots of fast skating, good check- ing and plenty of donuts in the net to entertain the fans. Port dominated the first starting with Ja- nine Hammond and Lisa LeFort teaming up for a beautiful first period lead. Three minutes into the second Kathleen Ro- Jas combined with Janine to give Port a 2-0 lead. Within seconds Leanne Holt found the mesh with a beauty pass from Kath- leen giving the IGA girls a commanding 3-0 lead. Markham answered back with two quick goals and with Port short handed Markham tied the game. With three minutes remaining Markham snuck a quick one past Jen Donnelly to take the lead making the Port girls even more de- termined. There was no stopping the girls now as Janine raced up the ice, picked up a pass from Jen Elliott, and made no mistake blasting it by the goaltender tying it with 15 seconds remaining! This was a well played, faced paced game with both the forwards and de- fence having to be very strong. Brooke, Janna, Kathy and Diana were tough on the blue line giving Jen lots of help be- tween the pipes. Amy Wilson played an excep- tional game on wing causing Markham a lot of headaches in their own end. Keep up the excel- lent work girls! The Port Perry IGA Jr. B's hit the ice Feb. 10 at 3 p.m.. Come on out and cheer them on. Bantams win 4-1 On Jan. 31 at the Scugog Arena the Port Perry Ban- tam No. 1 team, sponsored by Country Style Donuts in Manchester, played game three of the best of five series with Lindsay. With Port winning the first two games, this game was a must win situation for those Muskies from Lindsay. Unfortunately for Lindsay, their efforts proved to be unsuccessful as Port eked out a 4-1 win. Lindsay played a fine game throughout but their efforts ran just alittle short. The game remained scoreless until early in the third period as Lindsay took the lead. Port were tak-, ing their time getting on track as Lindsay were slow- ing them down with alot of clutching, grabbing, hook- ing, etc. Finally the ice was broken as Port tied the game on a goal by Casey Van Schagen. Picking up assists were Dillan Weber and Jon Froats. Right from the faceoff Troy Campbell broke in alone and gave Port a 2-1 lead. The score remained that way until the last min- ute as Lindsay pulled their goalie in an effort to tie the game. Port were not going to let this happen as Casey Van Schagen and Ian Parliament both scored empty net goals for a 4-1 win. Danny Lyons picked up the lone assists on both goals. Mike McLennan played a strong game in net for Port Perry. Port Perry now awaits the outcome of the Oshawa vs Cobourg series to determine their next opponent.
