So get yourself and your friends to Greenbank next Saturday, Feb. 17, to check it out when the Greenbank Folk Music Society welcomes Joe Hall and the Screaming Vegetables. Joe Hall is a singer-songwriter who's been honing his craft for more than 25 years, during which time he has appeared on numerous recordings and toured extensively. He is perhaps best know for his work, between 1975 and 1988, with The Continental Drift, founders of "neo-post psycho- pangalactic folk-rock." After five years of pursuing solo work, he has reunited with Tony Quarrington and J.P. Hovercraft, and they're making music together once again. Joe Hall's songs explore every emotion known to humans, and probably extraterrestrials as well, according to his press package. His influences include Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Woody Guthrie, William Burroughs, and The National Enquirer. What that means, of course, is that he 1s a song writer who pursues themes of social satire, which gives his music a quirky edge. Tickets for the Feb. 17 show at Greenbank Hall are $15, and can be obtained at Jayson Callan Music and Circular Sounds in Port Perry, and the Chicken Coop Bakery in Greenbank. In Uxbridge, they're available at Blue Heron Books. Opening act for next weekend's show will be Chris Coole and his Bluegrass Banjo. For more information on this or future shows in the Greenbank series, call 985-8351, or 852-7578.
