Both Ward 2 Councillor Ken Carruthers and Re- gional Councillor Marilyn Pearce threw their sup- port behind the project right away. Both acknowl- edged fears over the $16,500 franchise three- year contract, but felt the spin-off to the community as a whole would be worth it. Mr. Hull will be attend- ing a conference later this month with Gus Macker officials where he will se- cure firm details on all as- pects of the tournament and decide whether to sign the contract. The budget for the tour- nament, slated for either June of August, projects a profit or $10,950 the first year, a number that is ex- pected to increase in the following two years. Several councillors, as well as the mayor ex- pressed concerns over at- tracting enough teams and the financial implica- tions if they did not meet their quota.
