"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 13, 1996 -13 | Asselstine's Yamaha marks 25th anniversary by holding open house for customers By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star What began as a small operation in a little office and a one car garage has turned into a flourishing snowmobile business. Asselstine's Yamaha held an open house over the weekend to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the family owned busi- ness. The shop, opened by Vernon and Vera Assel- stineis now owned and op- erated by son Floyd and wife Ruth. While many snowmo- bile dealers have gone bel- ly up in the past years, As- selstine's continues to draw customers not only from Scugog but from across the province. Yamaha dealerships are abundant in the area, keeping it a hard- fought market, but Asselstine's reputation draws custom- ers back time and again. Many of the local dealer- ships customers are from the Oshawa, Ajax and Bowmanville areas, while others come from as far away as Kingston. Asselstine's was estab- lished 25 years ago as a shop to service its custom- ers. That is still Assel- stine's objective today, to serve the customers, Mr. Asselstine said. Times have changed dramatically in the snow- mobile industry as ma- chines become more com- plex and the trail systems enlarged. To deal with the changes Asselstine's has expanded several times to meet the demands of the public. In the beginning Assel- stine's dealt only in Yama- ha snowmobiles, but over the yeas has added motor- cycles and ATVs to its line of sales. The Blackstock shop also offers a full line of accessories and cloth- ing, which Mr. Asselstine said has become as much a part of the sport as the ma- chines. As 1997 approaches Mr. Asselstine said there will again be changes, with new machines, something heislooking forward to. Family-owned busi- nesses are far and few be- tween these days, but As- selstine's will remain just that for years to come. The staff at the local dealership, including sev- en full-time and two part- time staff, are experi- enced in all aspects of the Mackey, Bailey & Korb Barristers & Solicitors Saturday Mornings 9:00am to 12:00 noon Oshawa Rd., Port Perry Lake Scugog Lumber Building 08 5-7391 Dental Care for the whole Jomily. * DR. The seven full- time staff at the dealer- ship offer more than 80 years of snowmobile in- dustry experience to their customers. On top of the knowledge and experience the staff possesses they are also fairly young and will be carrying on business for some time to come. Whether the business remains in the family af- ter is anyone's guess. Mr. Asselstine said he would like to see his children try another career first, so they can fully appreciate the family business if they decide to take over in the distant future. Ruth and Floyd Asselstine take a moment out during their Open House Sunday afternoon to try out the seat of a brand new Yamaha Venture 600. Yamaha took the opportunity to unveil the 1997 model during Asselstine's 25th Anniversary celebration. A large crowd of friends and customers were on hand to help Ruth and Floyd mark this special anniversary in business. ---- > | | The Pod Povey Sa Grand Prize isterize 200°° 2ND prizes 100°° 3RD prize' 49 °° children (16 & under) 1st Prize $75.00 2nd Prize $50.00 3rd Prize $25.00 a -- PRESENTS...
