"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 13, 1996 - 21 SProrTs Defense was the nam of the game in Broomball this past Sunday as all three games were low scoring af- fairs. The playoff picture is starting to shape up with Just two games to go in the regular season and it looks as though the only question left to answer is who will be playing whom as the top four positions are still be- ing played out as to final standings. The Framer's Gallery snuck past the Stouffville Scorpions in game one by a 2-1 count. The Gallery took the lead midway through the opening period with Brian Mikkelsen setting up Rich Brough. This held up until six minutes into the final frame when Mikkelsen again provided the assist, this time on a goal by Tyler Renaud. The Scorpions ended the shutout bid with three minutes to play with Dan Vanloon scoring from Jeff Poulton. The middle match of the day was a real nail-biter as the Brooklin Bruins and Blackstock Brewers tussled to a 1-1 overtime draw. The first period went scoreless with both squads having their chances only to be thwarted by the guys between the pipes and the posts themselves. Early in the second, Blackstock went Local broomball action ahead with Ron Short scoring from Dave Dalton. This was short-lived as two minutes later Ken Lynde replied for Brooklin with Ron Attwood and Dennis MacWhirte drawing the assists. In the final game of the day, another close one, it was the Homelife Swampers emerging victorious over Trad- er Sam's. This moved the Swampers a step closer to Brooklin for the top spot in the league and allowed Blackstock to move back up into a tie with Trader's. This game also went scoreless through the opening period, but from the opening face-off of the second, the Swam- pers marched down to net one by Mike Butt. This held up until with just over four minutes to play when the Swampers doubled their lead with Dave Canning set- ting up Brian Pomeroy with the eventual winner. With seconds on the clock and their goaltender out for the ex- tra attacker Trader's pulled to within one on a goal by Gord Jones from Jim Gregg and Ken St. Amant. Next week will again loom large as Brooklin and the Swampers go head to head. The week after will see no regular league play as Brooklin, Framer's and Trader's all travel to the Regional Playdownsin Angus. - Pineridge Midgets into round two of playoffs The Pineridge Sports Midgets are into round two ot the playoffs, up against Stouffville.
