"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 20, 1996 - 21 Country Style The Port Perry Bantam #1 team, sponsored by Country Style Donuts in Manchester, commenced the second round of their play offs in the Lakeshore division against the Oshawa Red Wings of the L.N.H.L. This series is a best of five, with game one taking place at the Scugog Arenaon Feb. 12. The boys started off the game on fire as they opened the scoring early in the first on a goal by Ian Parliament, assisted by Brad Johnston and Danny Lyons. Oshawa tied it up laterin the period but Port broke open the game with two more goals in the peri- od for a 3-1 lead. Scott Jef- frey and Troy Campbell scored the goals. Assists went to Dave Gainey with two and singles to Jon Froats and Scott Jeffrey. The second period was a strong period for Oshawa as they fought to get back into the game. Their ef- forts were rewarded with one goal. After two periods Port Perry led by a score of 3-2. In the third period, Port broke open this game as they scored three goals to Oshawa's one for a con- vincing 6-3 win. Adam Hobbs, Troy Campbell and Derek Tindall led Port with a goal each. Picking up assists on these goals were Troy Campbell with two and singles going to Derek Tindall, Scott Jef- frey, Dave Gainey, and Nick Pelyk. Ryan Fraser played a solid game in net for Port to pick up the win. The next game of the se- ries was played at the Children's Arena in Oshawa on Feb. 14. It ap- pears from the game, Port were more interested in thinking of their "Valen- tines" as they were out- hustled and outscored by Oshawa 6-5 in overtime. Dillan Weber picked up two goals in the game, while singles went to Dan- ny Lyons, Nick Pelyk and Casey Vanschagen. Ca- Bantam action sey's goal was scored with three seconds left into the. game to force the over- time. Assists in the game went to Nick Pelyk, and Dave Gainey with two each, and singles for lan Parhament, Adam Hobbs, Jon Froats, Casey Vans- chagen, Scott Jeffrey, and Troy Campbell. Mike McLennan faced some tough opposition from the aggressive Redwings. Game three was played on Feb. 19 at the Scugog Arena with game four scheduled for Feb. 21 in Oshawa. Advanced Tykes This past weekend 'Dollar Plus Bargain Centre one of Port's Ad- vanced Tyke teams played an exhibition game in Sunderland | against their Major Tyke Red Wings. Bargain Plus came out in full force, shut- ting Sunderland down 9-0. Scoring the goals for Port were Kyle Paige with seven and Jared Olsen netting two. Assists were given to Kyle Passmore, Wil- liam Dallas and Eric Brown. Getting the shutout in net, playing an outstanding game was Mark Copithorn. What a great game, keep it up Dollar Plus! The Homelife Swam- pers made life interesting at the top as they pre- vailed over the Brooklin Bruins by a 2-0 count to match Brooklin for 30 points to date in the stand- ings. The first period was close and went scoreless, as it should when two top teams get together. This was followed a short time later with a marker from the broom of Dale Lown with Mole picking up his second assist and Brian Pomeroy adding one. Keith Tremblay recorded his seventh shutout of the season playing in the Swampers goal. Game two had Trader Sam's pitted against The Framer's Gallery and it too was a close one with Trader's hanging on in the end for a 2-1 victory. Trad- er's scored two late in the opening period with Les Allen, and Jim Gregg sup- plying these two. They were assisted by Craig Leask, Mike O'Meara, Tony Dennis, and Charlie Dennis. With just over two minutes remaining in the game the Framer's man- aged to get their lone goal from the broom of Eric Kristensen with Brent Rainey drawing the assist. In the final game of the day, the Blackstock Brew- ers managed to keep pace with Trader Sam's as both teams have 20 points each and go head to head in two week's time. The Brewers did this on the strength of a 5-0 blanking of the Stouffville Scorpions. Tom Wotten had the gun sights in order as he managed a pair of goals as well as an assist on the day. He was followed by Chiff Smith, Steve Halkes, and Ron Short with goals to help the cause. Also adding as- sists were Neil Woodrow and Al Boumeester with a pair each, and a single go- ing to Ron Wagg. Larry Reurekas picked up his sixth shutout of the sea- son. Again, there will be no games played this Sunday as several of the teams are involved in the Regional playdowns in Angus over the weekend but play will resume on March 3. Week three of SHL playoffs By Andy Seeley Ball-Callery Senators vs. Compton Comets The Compton Comets and The Ball- Callery Senators started Sunday's game set with a 3-1 win for the Comets. Doug Bronson scored the first goal for the Comets with an assist from Dan Taylor. Then Doug Brown scored a second for the Comets with Bob Beacock and Chris Brain assisting, followed closely by a third goal by Jason Warner with assists from David Roth and Doug Brown. Finally in the third period, the Senators scored their single goal with a shot by Brett Laycoe and assistance from Mark DeCosta and Paul Goreski. Van and Truck World Sharks vs. Monsma Chargers Then in Game Two the Van and Truck World Sharks and the Monsma chargers played. The Sharks took an early 2-0 lead in period one with goals scored by Colin Asselstine and Brad Menzies. Colin was assisted by Dave Dickson and Brad Menzies while Brad was assisted by Dave Dickson and Wayne Fox. Then in the second period the chargers scored with a goal from John Robertson and assists from Brian Pomeroy and Steve Churchill. In the last few seconds of the second peri- od the Sharks scored again with a goal by Carl Durward which was assisted by Dave Dickson and Brad Menzies. In peri- od three the Sharks fired in two more goals, one by Dave Brownson, with ass- ists from Bart Wagar and Jay Adam, and the other was scored by Dave Dickson with Brad Menzies and Wayne Fox assist- ing. The Chargers slipped in one final goal by Mike Geer, who was assisted by Bob Partington and Brian Pomeroy, before the Sharks finished the game. Brad Menzies was assisted by Dave Dickson and Lee Steeves to finish the game at 6-2. Pizza Delight Roosters vs. Fitzgerald Clippers In game three the Pizza Delight Roosters shut out the Fitzgerald Clippers in a 2-0 game. The score stayed at 0-0 until the third period when Jim Fowler scored with assists from Dave Bourgeois and Carl Durham. Then in the last seconds of the game John Harman scored with a single assist from Dave Bourgeois. J & D Hawks vs. Harrison Flames Game four was another 2-0 shutout with the J and D Hawks defeating the Harrison Flames. John Mackey scored the first goal with an assist from Alan Sibbald, then Gary Lance scored with an assist from Brian Burns to end the game. Pineridge Wolves vs. Taylor Aces Game five was a brutal game played by the Pineridge Wolves and the Taylor Aces. The first two goals were scored by the Wolves, the first by Darcy Milligan who was assisted by Todd Wilbur, and the second by Larry Pilkey with assistance from Ron Zaparanuik. Then Mark Jobb scored for the Aces with assists from Richie LeFort and Ken Little. Next, Ken 'Smart Sr., of the Wolves scored with ass- ists from Darcy Milligan and Clarence Stephenson. The following goal was scored unassisted by the Aces' Mark Jobb. The last goal of the game was scored by Larry Pilkey and assisted by Larry Jackson. The final score was 6-2 for the Wolves.
