Cornish For most people last Thursday came and went much like any other February day. But for the students at R.H. Cornish the day was packed with emotion and celebration. , While most Canadians are oblivious to Flag Day, more than 700 students and teachers gathered around the flagpole, locat- ed at the front of the school, to celebrate the occasion. And it couldn't have been a more picture perfect day, with large white flakes of snow floating gently to earth and the sun peaking through wisps of cloud throughout the ceremony. Among the dignitaries to address the students were Durham MP Alex Sheph- erd, Scugog Trustee Bob- bie Drew, Brock Trustee Bill Fairburn and princi- pal Rick De Jong. lan Garnett, a senior student, was MC and introduced the guests. Jodi May and Sarah White, helped Mr. Shepherd unveil a new Canadian flag and raise it up the flag pole while stud- ents waved hand-held flags proudly. Jr. Kindergarten stud- ents Cody Forsyth and Caitlin Daly accepted a plaque from Mr. Shepherd which was presented to the school for their efforts long-time teacher, Reg Philip with assistance from the office of MP Alex Shepherd. in promoting Flag Day. The Flag Day celebration held at R.H. Cornish was organized and directed by 75th anniversary planned for William's Point A 75th anniversary celebration is being planned for William's Point this summer, but organizers need help locating former residents. Bruce Colwell, who is planning the event, said the assessment lists prior to 1960 are nowhere to be found. He has checked with the township and the mu- seum, but has not located them. Anyone who can help Mr. Colwell locate either the assessment lists, or past residents is asked to call 986-4034. He is also searching for old pictures and memorabilia from the area. | The ol Deven Stay | | | PICKEREL ICE FISHING Grand Prize 1ST PRIZ £:200°° 2ND prize' 1 00°° 3RD prize' 452° children (16 & under) Ist Prize $75.00 985-0096 FEB. 16-28 "eg REGISTRATION FEE - ADULTS - $10.00 CHILDREN - $5.00 ir To win you must register before Feb. » 16, 1996 at JD Fishing and Archery, 2nd Prize $50.00 27 Water St., Port Perry. 3rd Prize $25.00 rd RULES & AVS WEIGHT RESTRICTION REGULATIONS will be in force on roads under the | RULES & REGULATIONS: 1.)
