Advanced Tykes Port Perry Advanced Tykes' Dollar Plus met up with David's Hairstyling this past Friday night for their weekly game. Great goaltending from Dollar Plus' Mark Copit- horn and Davids' Kyle Jones kept the fans on the edge of their seats. The game ended 8-5 with Dollar Plus getting the win. Guardian Drugs in playoff hunt Another busy weekend for the Port Perry Guardian Tween "C" girls with three games. Saturday afternoon we were home to the Ajax 1 team. We had split our previous matchups with them and expected a tough game. Early in the game Ajax struck first and continued to pour on the pressure but Alaina was equal to the task and after the first we were down one. | In the second Ajax exploded for four quick goals and then added another as our girls just couldn't get into this game'and ended up on the short end of 6-0 score. Saturday night the girls travelled to Markham for late encounter. After their loss they were anxious for a better performance. The game started out similar to the afternoon affair with Markham swarming around our net but Alaina stymied their attack and on Port's first rush up the ice Sarah scored an unas- sisted goal. Markham came back to tie. Shannon gave the tweens back the lead on a nice pass from Sheena. Again Markham tied it up but with 2:50 left in the first Sarah pocketed another. In the second it was back and forth with both teams missing numerous scoring opportunities. With seven minutes left Mark- ham got two quick goals to take the lead and held on to win the game 4-3. Sunday, Ajax 2 was in town to play in a half lit are- na seems major electrical problems were occurring in the arena. Never the less the game was on. Port came out smoking and Sheena scored early into the con- test, assists to Alaina B. and Shannon. Several min- utes later Sarah capitalized on a lovely pass from Jes- sica. Ajax got one back. Then Sarah returned the favor with a pass to Jessica for the score. Ind of the first 3-1 for Port. In the second Ajax came out firing and scored two goals to tie it up. Sheena put Port in front with a div- ing goal from Shannon. Ajax scored two more to take the lead. With 3:49 left Shannon putone in to tie it up, assist to Heather and one minute later scored her sec- ond in a row from Sarah to seal the victory. After sev- eral defeats it was nice to see our girls get back to their winning ways. Whitby Auto Wreckers Meet The Lions Our regular league game was early Saturday and we faced off with the Lions Club whom we haven't seen for a while. The first period the action was back and forth but both teams were held scoreless. Each team got on the scoreboard in the second period. Whitby first on a goal from Luke Pilkey assisted by Ty Armstrong and Taylor Meeking at 7:20. Colin Holclitch of the Lions shot the next goal in at 3:15 with help from Ryan O'Leary. The Lions went up a goal early in the third with Ryan O'Leary taking a pass from Colin Holclitch and popping it past Whitby's goalie Kellen Jackson. The rest of the period belonged to Whitby as they scored four unanswered goals. Greg Hunter picked up two goals with Ryan May assisting on both. Jordan Froates got one with his line of John Dutka and Taylor Meeking. Greg Jeffery also put one in the net on a pass from Ryan to finish the scoring at 5-2. Good effort from netminder Kellen Jackson for Whitby and the Lions goaltending team of Jason Cottrell and Robert Larmer. Joseph Koslensky had a good game as did Scott Lennox for the Lion crew. Action continued on Sunday for the Auto Wreckers as they motored to Uxbridge for a tournament. The first game was tight as we took on the LaFarge team from Uxbridge. A scoreless first period occurred and they got a goal on us at 5:48 of the second. We fought back in the third as Greg Jeffrey tied the game for us with Justin Sanders and Greg Hunter helping. We went up on a goal from Ryan May unassisted but they got two quick goals back on us. Down 2-3 we powered up and at 1:06 Greg Jeffery again tied the score 3-3 on passes from Jordan Froats and Joel Campbell. Kellen Jackson had some terrific saves in the third to help us hang in the game but we just couldn't get that go ahead goal. : Luke Pilkey did a great job on our defense and the boys fought hard against some tough opposition. Due to a tournament rule that the team that scores first advances in case of a tie we headed to the B side of the tournament. Game two we met another Uxbridge team Foxfire. The first period saw us up 2-0 on goals from Ryan May and Alex McKay. Assists on the goals to Greg Hunter, Scot Symes and Joel Campbell. The Foxfire team got two back in the second and we headed into the third with a 2-2 tie. Our guys were playing a tight game but at 9:48 Foxfire scored. Ryan went in alone at 5:31 and tied the game at 3- 3. The action heated up as both teams fought for the game winning goal in the remaining five minutes. Unfortunately the Uxbridge team got it at 2:21 to win 4- 3. They were exciting games and the boys worked hard. Novice House League On Feb. 24 Van Camp Contracting defeated Re/Max 4-1 in Novice House League play. Van Camp opened the scoring early with a goal by Brett Whyte assisted by Brad Layzell and Cameron O'Connor. The next three goals by Van Camp were initiated by nice passing plays. Michael Aldred scored two goals and contributed an assist. Brooks Taylor scored a goal and notched two assists. Kale Thompson and Sean McNamara Virtue, and Darren Black played well on defence. Re/Max's Dave Stewart broke Van Camp's shut-out bid with a goal in the third period on a nice pass from Stewart Medford. Kirk Stephens and Norman Rooney had strong games for Re/Max. Goalies Trevor Algar of Re/Max and Patrick Dunn of Van Camp made several outstanding saves. Congratulations to both teams on a good effort. Emiels and Big V put on a great ice display Saturday morning. Emiels bolted out of the gate with two early goals by Cameron Richardson. With four minutes left to play in the first, Ryan Kehoe put Big V on the scoreboards and back in the game. TJ Robbins evened us the score moments into the second period, assisted by Donald Campbell. After plenty of end to end action over the next 15 minutes Big V managed one more goal by Ryan Woods, assisted by Mike Dalby but Emiels never let up. Before the buzzer had ended the period they had put three more in the net, making the score 5-3. David Halward, Gerrard Timmers, and Mike Blakey each scored with assists to Chris Glouster, Tyler Lucas, Cameron Vernest, and Sean Williams. Big V attempted a comeback skating strong and scoring three goals. Donald Campbell, Rob Taylor, and TJ Robbins each managed to score for Big V in the third period. Assisting were Donald Campbell (two), Eric Bird, Rob Taylor, Ryan Halsam, and TJ Robbins (two). Emiels kept on working hard and by playing as a team, scored three goals for a well earned game victory. Scoring for Emiels was a very busy Chris Glouster (two) and Joshua Griffen. Assists went to Tyler Lucas, David Halward (two), Mike Blakey, and Sean Williams. Bantam House League A high scoring game in the Bantam House League took place Saturday night as Swamp Garage took on the IGA boys. Murphy Irvine scored the first goal to start things off late in the first period. Assisting Murphy on the goal were Mark Delaney and Reid McTaggart. Great passing job guys. Chad Lance scored another at 1:34 with help from Pete McKitterick and Mark Delaney. IGA picked up four more goals in the second period from Kam Cooper, Joel Van Camp, Mark and Murphy. Good effort this period from Steve Martyn. IGA had some terrific shots from Murphy to keep the Swamp's netminder Jeremy Hall busy. We were hoping for a shutout for Lawrence Cook in the IGA net covering for Chris Thompson who's in the sunny south, but Swamp had other plans. Late in the second Blayne Kinnunen scored assisted by Jarred Aldridge and Keith Hancock. Into the third and Joel picked up his second goal of the night on nice passes from Pete and Murphy. Two minutes later Pete popped in his first goal of the game with assists to Nick Ostafichuk and Joel. John Reid for Swamp scored unassisted at 4:56 to up the score to 8-2. Chad Lance finished it off with a nice goal at 4:36 to end the game 9-2. Great team effort guys. Special mention goes to Chad, Murphy and Joel with two goals and one assist each; Pete and mark both with one goal and three assist; Ken Ellis and Reid two assists each. Lawrence Cook in net wasn't letting those pucks in and made some awesome saves for use. Good job on the bench coaches Mr. Lance and Mr. Martyn. Derek Campbell put in a solid effort for the Swamp team and coach Wayne pitched in with single assists. Matt Morrison, Matt Hancock. On Friday, Feb. 23 the Port Perry Peewee B team played the Aurora Tigers at Scugog Arena. Port Perry got off to a quick start when Trevor Weis- flock scored at 10:11 of the first period, assisted by Darren Royle and Matt Cracknell. Port Perry scored again at 8:06 of the first period when Matt McGarry shoveled it in af- ter some nice passing by Billy Carr and John Bur- nett. Port Perry did not let up. Trevor scored his sec- ond of the night, assisted by Mike Wadsworth and John Burnett at 5:03 to put Port Perry up 3 to 0 on Aurora. Port then scored once again at 2:41 when Billy Carr faked the deke and backhanded the puck upstairs. With chances looking slim, Aurora popped two quick goals to end the first with a score of 4 to 2 in favor of Port Perry. At 13:41 of the sec- ond period Aurora scored again. On the verge of a comeback they scored 15 seconds later to tie the game. With the Port Perry players in shock, Aurora scored again to take the lead at 7:50 of the second. Port tied it up at 7:07 when Billy Carr scored on a shot from the slot. Auro- ra scored again to end the second period. To start the third, Billy scored his third of the night assisted by Matt McGarry and Mike Wadsworth. Billy got four points during this wild game. Mike LeFort then scored at 7:20 assist- ed by Matt McGarry and Adam Moynes. To finish the game, Scott Duncan scored from the point as- sisted by Ian Garnett. Port Peewee Bs win match 8-6 Perry had 22 penalty min- utes while Aurora had six. Goaltenders D'Arcy Ste- phens and Mike Koury of Port Perry played excel- lent and made many great saves to preserve the win for their teammates.The final score: 8 to 6 in Port Perry's favor.
