In Greenbank March 8&9 The Sunday School chil- dren opened the first Sun- day of Lent with a song and the first candle of the Lenten Triangle was ex- tinguished by Kim and Tracy Thomson. We are leading into the darkness of Good Friday and every- one is invited to join us each Sunday at 11:15 a.m. for this special time of the church year. Next Sunday, March 3 the first Sunday of the month is muffins and cof- fee before church, so come ~and join in the fellowship. The World Day of Prayer will be held in Greenbank Church on Fri- day, March 1 at 2 p.m. This service includes the churches of the Green- bank Pastoral Church also Wick and Cresswell and this is an invitation to all to attend. The ladies of the Greenbank Fidelas Unit, U.C.W. are asked to meet in the church at 1:15 p.m. Greenbank for the March business meeting. The Pinedale Group joined our church's Youth Group and Senior Sunday School Class for a Youth pot luck lunch after church last Sunday. Pine- dale Youth then enjoyed a puppet demonstration by the Greenbank Sunday School and had fun taking a turn bringing the pup- pets to life. Many of our community enjoyed the spaghetti sup- per last Sunday evening in the church, put on by the Youth Group. I have been asked by the leaders and members of the Youth Group to thank everyone for their continued sup- port. Greenbank Minor Ball Registration will be held at Greenbank Hall on Fri- day, March 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. Boys and girls ages four as of Jan. 1, 1996 up to the age of 10 in 1996 can register for softball in Greenbank. This year we are also hoping to form a new mixed Lob Ball team in Greenbank, ages 16-19 in- clusive. Please register this weekend if interested. The monthly Euchre Party will be this Friday evening, March 1, at 8 p.m. in the Greenbank Hall. Everyone is"welcome to attend. Thought for the week: "When your load becomes too heavy, take out a bless- ing and examine it." t Nursing Home News All enjoyed Italian feast By Margaret Cavill As usual there have been many activities planned at the nursing home during the month of January and February. On Jan. 24 residents from the nursing home and villa went to Frankie Tomatoes Restaurant for an Italian feast. Everyone enjoyed the variety of foods available on the buf- fet. Many thanks to the members of the Oddfel- lows for hosting the monthly birthday party held in the evening and thank you to Clem Jeffrey for leading everyone in a sing song. : A visit by Irwin Smith (Ocala Orchards) on the 25th was most enjoyable. Irwin gave a talk about wine making and also brought along some wine for tasting. Thank you Ir- win for enlightening eve- ryone on wine and wine making. Roman Day on the 26th was a big hit. In the morn- ing the hairdresser's room was turned into a Roman spa. Residents enjoyed back rubs, and hand and feet massages. The room was lit by candles and soft music was playing in the background. A Toga Party was held in the afternoon. Everyone dressed up in sheets and scarves. An af- ternoon of a quiz game on Italy, dunking for grapes (in whipped cream) and a contest in singing "Sol A Me O" was won by Marjo- rie Walton, Grace Had- den, Charlie Studholme and Marjorie and Willie Walton. They were some- what tired but the day had been most enjoyable. A tovr of Italy supper, resident's council meeting Bible Study, Pub night, and a Pizza Party to thank student volunteers were some of the other activi- {ios that filled the calen- ar Celebrating birthdays in February are Bill Moroz (1), Joan Tuck (9), Lorne Manning (10), Emma Fisher (10) and Margaret Charland on the 26th. Happy birthday to all. In February, Africa is the country everyone will be learning about. The majority of activities will have something to do with Africa, their history, cus- toms and foods. At the be- ginning of the month the home was decorated in an African theme and on the fifth the movie "Animals Are Beautiful People" was shown. A special cupids breakfast was held on the seventh. Fresh fruit, crois- sants, bacon and eggs were served and enjoyed by all. Excitement is mounting for the upcoming dream trip cruise. The addition of Dr. Stewart to the passen- ger list is one detail that we are thrilled about. Fundraising has been an ongoing venture here at . the nursing home recent- ly. A bowl-a-thon was held and on the 13th a rum- mage sale will be held. The proceeds of which will go towards helping make the trip a successful one. Resi- dents, staff and volunteers will be departing the nurs- ing home at 6:15 a.m. on March 3, 1996 and will re- turn March 7 late in the evening. There will be lots of stories to tell on their re- turn an to all who are em- barking on this trip. Good luck and have fun. Judy Taylor has been a patient in Port Perry Hos- pital for the past few days and I'm pleased to report that she seems to be mak- ing some progress. Judy has been a victim of severe back problems for several months. Jack and Nancy Skeld- ing were hosts on Sunday when members of the [Lake family were present to enjoy brunch and a fam- ily social time. Jean and Wally Scott of [London were guests with Mrs. Crosier for a few days last week.
