"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 12, 1996 -5 GOLF ON THE LAKE? Hey... why not? That's why a bunch of people got together this past Saturday for the Second annual Scugog Open, held just off shore In Caesarea. They laid out a par 31 nine-hole course with plowed fairways, cleared greens, and cups cut right into the ice. Seven foursomes took part in the four-man scramble, and they were not deterred by high winds and freezing temperatures; in fact, the conditions made the event that much more of a challenge. Here, Dave Dart (kneeling) sizes up his approach to the hole while organizer Jim Cross (left), joined by Neil Williams and Mark Jeffrey, look on. Participants who gathered around a warm fire after the round agreed that if you can't beat winter, you might as well kill yourself trying to enjoy it. Scugog will put GTA question on ballot in newspapers soon Scugog Township Council wants the public's opinion on the GTA report and will be asking residents to fill out a one question ballot. The ballot will run for two weeks in the Port Perry Star, beginning March 19. Res- idents are asked to fill in their name and address on the ballot to discourage anyone from stuffing the ballot box. The question will simply read "Do you want to be a part of a: Greater Toronto Area Government as recommended by Dr. Anne Golden?" There will be ballot boxes placed in all the general stores in the township, as well as IGA in Port Perry. Residents must drop off the completed ballot by March 29. In Durham Region alone farm gate sales exceeded $200 million, stressing the importance of the indus- try. While many believe oth- erwise, Durham Region works, according to coun- cil. The township's report does admit there is room for improvement to review programs to focus and im- prove service levels. Council believes that Durham has demonstrat- ed that the rural north and urban south can co-exist and grow together. Scugogis already a flexi- * ble service district, council says, adding the munici- pality works in a cost effec- tive manner. Fire protec- tion agreements with Uxbridge and Scugog, and Handi-Transit and Ani- mal Control services shared with Uxbridge are some examples. Scugog maintains that the GTA does not identify the regions outside of Me- tro as part of the govern- ance, but appears to see the surrounding regions of Halton, Peel, York and Durham as a means to pay the bills. "This municipality is emphatically opposed to the substantial tax shift proposed. The problems were created in Metro and must be corrected in Me- tro," says the township's submission. 32.50 Per Movie with our 30 movie package KIDS MOVIES ONLY 99¢ 3 REGULAR MOVIES FOR 3 DAYS ONLY $5.00 VIDEO GAMES $1.99/DAY extra days $1.50 All New "Adults Only" Room sale starting at only $5.99 oe FFREKEe Bring in this Ad and Rent an Older Movie for IX IE ¥ 1881 Scogog Street, Port Perry, Ontario l (905) 985-3666 SIT TR Hundreds of previously viewed movies for A A Alex Shepherd, MP Durham and Team 1st Port Perry Scouts All Board Members All Volunteers Antrim House, Baldwin Sales Beta Sigma Phi Big V, Port Perry Blue Heron Books BooksGalore & More Brock Citizen Brock Township Council Brock's Department Store Brooklin Veterinary Hospital Canadian Tire, Port Perry | Canadian Tire, Uxbridge Central Seven Cinemax Vide: Circular Sounds: "Delta Girls" o Dr. John Stewart Dr. Jack Cotrell | Evergreen Florist, Oshawa | Everlasting Memories Flindall's Freshmart Floral Expressions, Uxbridge Framer's Gallery Glitsch Guardian Drugs, Port Perry Home Hardware, Uxbridge Home Hardwaré;:Rort Perry Hong Kong Gglden Gaté Restaurant Ives Florist ii .
