KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRYSTAR : ' KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRYSTAR RE/MAX WON the Novice house league crown on Saturday. The members of the winning team are Andrew Adams, Trevor Algar, Ceri Boomsma, Kyle Tyler Leach, Josh McCabe, Stewart Medford, Brent Meeking, Josh Page, lan Bowers, Haydon Fish, Timothy Gibson, Graham Hofstetter, James Hobbs, - Page, Norman Rooney, Kirk Stephens, David Stewart and Darren Tapper. Peewee Championship Emiels emerged as the victor in a hard fought 5-4 win over Big V in the Peewee Championship. Emiels and Big V played a great game in this fast paced matchup. Even when they trailed by two Emiels kept the pressure on. Hot zoaltending by Shawn Martin and excellent defensive play by Sean Williams, Brian Harris, Brian Gaudet and Mark Richardson was a big factor in the win. Scoring for Emiels was Tyler Lucas, Mike Sytsma, Gerrard Timmers and Mike Blakey, two. Assisting were Chris Gloster, three, Cameron Vernest, Mike Blakey, David Halward, Cameron MacDonald, Kevin Moore and Joshua Gniffin. Scoring for Big V was lan Bongar, T.J. Robbins, Donald Cameron, and Robbic Taylor. Assists were awarded to Robbie Taylor, Ryan Kehoe, and Ryan Haslam. Goalie Ryan Woods made numerous great saves for Big V. This championship was a game in which both teams can be proud. All the boys played great hockey with sportsmanship and team work. Special thanks to coaches Harvey Williams and Dan Martin for coaching Emiels with skill and patience throughout the year. Haugens vs Re/Max The Novice Championship game featured Haugens vs Re/Max in classic nail biter. Mitch Saunder opened the scoring for Haugens on a goal assisted by Glen Powell. Within a minute, Re/Max tied the game on a goal by Brent Meeking assisted by Tim Gibson and Kirk Stephens. Norman Rooney put Re/Max ahead midway through the second, set up by Kirk Stephens. Minutes later, Haugens Owen Penstone fed Glen Powell, who tallied a marker to even the score. With the second winding down Re/Max turned on the jets and netted two. Dave Stewart put them ahead assisted by James Hobbs, lan Page added the other, assists to Josh Page and Dave Stewart. Down 4-2 with only eight minutes remaining. Haugen"s players displayed the true meaning of grt and determination. They closed to within one on an unassisted goal by Chris Boomhour, and then a few minutes later, evened the score on a great individual effort, once again by Chris Boomhour. Darren Tapper then netted a go ahead goal for Re/Max late in the third, assisted by Josh McCabe and Graham Hofstetter. But Haugen's wouldn't roll over and evened the score on a goal by Mitch Saunder, assisted by Corey Hellingman with only minutes remaining. This game went into sudden death overtime. The excitement was peaking, as goalies Trevor Algar of Re/Max and Michael Jehu of Haugens came up with key saves. The playoff format removes a skater cach minute. - With only one skater left per team, Dave Stewart managed to work his way clear of Mitch Saunder and scored the winner for Re/Max. Without a doubt, this was an intense and exciting game of hockey. The players on both teams played hard and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, treating themselves and the fans to real playoff hockey. What a fitting end to a great season! Atom House League - Lions vs Wreckers Whitby Auto Wreckers met Lions Club to determine who would advance to the championship. The first was tight as both played great. Kellen Jackson made great saves in net for the Wreckers as did the team of Jason Cottrell and Robert Larmer for Lions. Jamie Anderson worked hard to keep the puck out of the Whitby end. The second appeared to be going the same way as neither team was giving up. Justin Sanders on defense for Froats picked up 'the goal, assists to Whitby was foiling the Lions forwards as they tried to move in. With 3.9 seconds left in the second period, the Lions David Storr shot the puck through and scored. | Into the third and Whitby was battling to get on the board. Justin Sanders passed to Ryan May to tie the game. Both sides fought hard for the lead but Whitby's Ryan May came up with the puck, shot a beautiful pass to Justin Sanders who scored with 17 seconds left to win the game 2-1 and advance to the championship. It was a great team effort guys. Hats off to the coaches for their hard work; Dave Jackson, Larry Pilkey and Mark Howsam for Whitby and John Lennox, Gerry Kozlinsky and M. Stevenson of Lions Club. The Wreckers took on Scugog Lumber for the championship. Whitby came out flying and went up 1-0 within 50 seconds. Jordan Justin Sanders and Russ Jackson. Ryan May of Whitby went in unassisted to put them up 2- 0. Luke Pilkey, worked hard on defense as did Greg Jeffrey. Lumber got on the board on a goal from Darryl Copithorn assisted by Alex Nicolaov. Matt Kamminga of Lumber tied the game on an unassisted goal. Before the period ended Whitby took the lead on a goal from Ryan May as he fired a great shot past Brady Gray in net. Into the second both teams were working hard. Ryan May was hot as he picked up his third for a hat trick. Helping Ryan were Devon Howsam and Joel Campbell. Ty Armstrong had some good shifts this period for Whitby. In the third Kellen Jackson was keeping Whitby in the game with some awesome glove saves. Scott Symes worked hard as did Gary Garrett. Scugog was tireless trying to come back. Matt Kamminga went in unassisted to pick up his second goal. This finished the scoring at 4-3. Congratulations to both teams on a fine effort. Bantam House League - IGA vs Emmerson IGA and Emmerson were battling for a spot in the finals on Saturday. It was a best of three series and IGA had taken the first game the week before. The first was exciting as play was end to end challenging both goalies Chris Thompson and Chris Loughlin. Scorcless going into the second IGA picked up the first goal from Joel Van Camp assisted by Jon Sanders and Kam Cooper. Emmerson fought back and Wade Richie put one in on a pass from Aaron Chambers. Tied going into the third the tension mounted. Danny Follows of Emmerson put his team ahead asissted by Scott Cunningham. Both teams were working hard; it was great to watch. Emmerson's Jamie Page added another with 39 seconds left to finish the score at 3-1. Justin Sheehey and Eric Troan assisted. Having a pood game for IGA was Mark Delaney, Joel Van Camp, Chns Thompson in net, and Jon Sanders. Nice to see Chad Lance back in the lineup for IGA. Emmerson's Wade Richie, Tim Wray and Jamie Page all worked hard for coach Dennis Symes. Congratulations to Danny Follows for his goal. Mom and Dad were pretty excited about this one. Game three of the series was Sunday. Emmersons came out flying as they took the lead early in the first on a goal from Wade Ritchie assisted by Aaron Chambers. Another goal for Emmersons came from Aaron assisted by Wade. Wade was hot as he put in another. Chris Jones picked up the assist. Jamie Page passed the puck to Tim Wray who finished the period with a goal to put Emmersons up 4-0. iGA's line of Pete McKitterick, Lawrence Cook and Jeremy Pare charged in on net determined to score. There was a scramble and players were falling but Pete managed to poke it in. Emmersons picked up a goal from Scott Cunningham assisted by Wade and into the third we went. Scott Cunningham scored again with Wade's help to go up 6-1. IGA fought back with a goal from Chad Lance, assists to Reid McTaggart and Joel Van Camp. Emmerson's Wade Ritchie completed his hat trick unassisted. Emmersons now go on to the finals against Swamp Garage. Kam Cooper and Nick Ostafichuk had a great game for IGA as did Wade Ritchic and Justin Shechey for Emmersons. The goalies handled some tough shots and deserve a lot . of credit for their work. To the IGA boys, it was a pleasure to watch you play throughout the year. Thanks to our helpers throughout the year Dennis Martin, Greg Ostafichuk, Greg Sanders, Gary Lance, Dave Ellis and Dave Thompson. To coach Bill Van Camp our thanks as we know it is not always an easy job-and can be a challenge at this age but they loved playing for you. Memories and happy faces say it all. Atom House League - Lions 4 - Laurentian 3 The Consolation final saw some great end to end action with both goalies making some great saves. The Lions' John Kyle opened up the scoring early in the first. The Lions increased their lead in the second with goals by Joseph Kozlinsky and Ryan O'Leary. Laurentian responded with a goal by Brad Giannini. - The Lion's Eric Fenton added one from a scramble in front. Laurentian applied the pressure in the third . Jesse Mischitian popped one in at the 5:58 mark and then again with 1:08 left. Laurentian never let up for the remainder but the Lions were able to prevail with a 4-3 victory. The Lions coaching staff of John Lennox, Marvin Stevenson and Jerry Kozlinsky did a great job this season. The Lions never gave up hope and steadily improved. Van Camp Wins B Finals 3-2 Van Camp and Port Perry Printing faced off for the B finals of the Novice league. Van Camp came out on tep with a 3-2 victory to take the B finals. Michael Aldred of Van Camp opened the sconng with a goal assisted by Matt Morrison. Van Camp came out strong in the period with an unassisted goal by Brad Layzell to make it a 2-0 game. PPPs Todd Lance made his first appearance in seven weeks after missing most of his regular scason due to an injury. Todds 1njury didn't scem to bother him as he scored twice in the sccond period assisted by Chris Jackson and Jeff Durward. Van Camp's Brook Taylor scored to break the tie with his game winning goal! Patrick Dunn of Van Camp and Josh Durward of PPP Kept their teams alive in the third closing the doors on the net to make 1t a scoreless period. Congratulations Van Camp.
