Is it really the middle of April? Yes itis and plans are well underway for up- coming spring events. The Community Nursing Home and Villa are busy pre- paring for their annual Spring Bazaar which will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Their theme this year is "Sail into Spring." Mark your calendars now for this popular bazaar and enjoy the many ven- dor displays in the two build- ings. The Hospital Auxiliary has plans well underway for their Silent Auction to be held at the hospital on Friday, May 10 from 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mark your calendars now. You won't want to miss this event! Scugog Shores Museum Village The Scugog Shores Museum will be hosting an event called "Antiques on the Go" which is an artifact identification clinic held on Sunday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Latcham Centre in Port Perry. There will be a panel of antique experts on hand to help identify your "treasures." They will also be holding a se- ries of eight Herbal Workshops on each Tuesday evening in - May and June, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Head Memorial Church on the Museum grounds. Scugog Island United Church On Sunday the congregation enjoyed two selections during the Ministry of Music. One beautiful selection from the choir and another from our three generation trio. Thanks to the choir and Joan Aldred, Pat and Robin Adderley. The Lectionary Bible Study Group will meet on Tuesday, April 16 at 1:30 p.m. The Grace U.C.W. will be put- ting on a birthday party at the Villa on Tuesday, April 16 at 2 p.m. The High School Supper Club will meet on Tuesday, April 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. The Moms and Tots will meet on Wednesday, April 17 at 9:30 a.m. The Worship and Music Com- mittee will meet on Wednesday, Greenbank Sunday morning services at Greenbank United Church began with a hymn sing and then Norma Brose read a beautiful poem she had written about our village and church. Minuet for Mis- sion was given by Judy Gib- son with Diane Pelletier and Suzzanne Lee acting a skit about our part in Missions in other countries. The mes- sage was sad that we aren't doing a better job for those who need education in so many ways. Church family photos at the church this Saturday. There will be a Centennial Spring Concert May 3 Spring Concert on May 3 at 8 p.m. at Greenbank Church. This will be talent of the area and proves to be an evening to plan on attending. Next Sunday evening, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. there will be an Ecumenical Choir Service in Port Perry United Church. This is an evening of local church choirs singing. Everyone is invited to at- tend. Guide cookies are availa- ble now but because of the bad weather on Saturday the girls did not go door-to-door. Margaret Couperthwaite along with Donna Sweetman and Margaret Ingram of Sea- grave attended the United Church Women's Spring Conference in Belleville last week for three days. Thought for the week: Things are pretty well evened up in this world. Oth- er people's troubles are not so bad as yours, but their chil- dren are alot worse. April 17 at 1:30 p.m. at S.1.U.C. The choir will be treated to supper on Thursday, April 18 by the High School Supper Club. Will they be able to sing after a delicious meal? We will let you know! The Youth Group will meet on Friday, April 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Stewards will meet on Monday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. The Head U.C.W. and Grace U.C.W. are busy with plans for Saturday, May 4. The Grace U.C.W. will be holding their An- nual Hot Luncheon at Scugog Island United Church and the Head U.C.W. will be holding their Annual Country Cookin' and Craft Sale at the Island Hall. Robinglade residents plan for a big yard sale in May All Robinglade residents are reminded that the annual yard sale is Saturday, May 18,9 a.m. - noon. Please call 985-3722 if you are participating a.s.a.p. as the $1 per home cost goes to- wards advertising for as many weeks as the money allows. Robinglade Women's groups next meeting is April 23, 8 p.m. at the Scugog Shores Museum (on Scugog Island). The group will meet at the church first and then will be given an informa- tive tour. Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Derick Kent, El- eanor Sturman, Sarah Cole- man, David Lee, Gary Sweet- man and Barbara Short. : The choir sang, "Now the Green Blade Rises" at the church service on Sunday. Mar- garet Ingram gave the Minute for Mission on "Ministry by Boat and Skidoo". She told us how the people in the fishing vil- lage of able to get to their church by us- ing their boats in summer and hevery, Quebec, were skidoos in winter. Next Sunday is Rogation Day and Celebration of Creation. The Seagrave and Pinedale choirs under the leadership of the organist, Muriel Jebson, are planning a music night for Sun- day, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Seagrave Church. All are wel- come. The church stewards wish to thank all those in the church and community who provided food or helped in any way at the beef supper last week. Once again it was a successful com- munity effort. The Seagrave U.C.W. will meet on Wednesday, May 1 at 8 p.m. at the church. Please bring your donation for the baby girl's layette. For items still needed contact Mildred Puckrin. Thats all for now, please call Ann Sandiford at 985-9440 for next weeks' column. Mystery Sister dinner April 27 Grace Beacock and her family and girl friends enjoyed Sunday lunch at Haugens. The same group went to Lindsay to help Mr. John Beacock celebrate his 90th birthday on April 1. On Wednesday evening the U.C.W. met in the church hall for their monthly meeting. Hildy Smith and Ilean Pugh opened the meeting with a short devotion. Ilean introduced Dor- othy Dupre guest speaker from the World Mission to the Deaf. Mrs. Dupre gave a very inter- esting talk on the Campbell's soup labels on how they are trimmed tied and placed in car- tons of 40,000. The program has been working for 22 years with more groups and individuals sending in labels. Last year 2,432,800 labels collected. Many items can be brought for the School for the Deaf in Puer- to Rico and El Salvador. Keep saving the front panel of Camp- Sr Prince Albert bell's soup and turn in to Ilean Pugh or any U.C.W. member. Hildy Smith thanked Mrs. Du- pre for her very interesting talk and slides and gave a donation for the work with the deaf. The weekly euchre on Thurs- day evening had 13 tables. The winners were Ruby Slute, Nora Huestis, Lorraine Geer, Don Geer, Norman Rohrer, Art Gib- son. Lucky draws: Ilean Pugh, Doris Hill, Jim Emerton and Art Gibson. Mary Devitt of Oshawa spent a couple of days with Grace Bea- cock and called on Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bradburn. Lila Clarke arrived home af- ter spnding most of the winter in Flordia. Also nice to see Grant and Eva Hunter back from Florida even though it doesn't seem much like spring. Ed and Catherine Daigle have returned home after spending a month travelling to Australia and Hawaii. The Friendly Visitors will be having their rummage and bake sale on April 27 in the Community Centre. Also the draw on the quilt. The Prince Albert United Church ladies will be having their Mystery Sister Friendship Dinner on Tuesday, April 30 at Krebs in Whitby. Call Bev Stan- ley if you wish to go.
