The intermediate team, which includes Gavin Stanley, Julie Puckrin, Heather Johnson, Devon Marshal and Allan Bax- ter, came in second place in their division. The senior team, which includes Ryan Kdgar, Christy Holtby, Karen Brozina, Robin Adderley and Tristan Smith brought home gold med- als, along with a large tro- phy. This victory ad- vanced them to the Provincial level on May 13 at the new board office in Oshawa. The problem that the students were given was the over population of Ca- nadian geese. Each team had to hand in an essay, a 15 page pamphlet and complete a dramatic presentation us- ing flashbacks, song and emotion before 4 p.m. They were marked by a panel of judges and re- ceived the results by the end ofthe day. "It was & great learning experience," says Ryan Edgar, a member of the senior team. Leadership training offered Kinark is offering a leadership training course. The course is specifical- ly designed to train group facilitators for parent study groups, develop leadership skills and an understanding of group dynamics. It comprises one component of the "Par- ent Study Group Leader's Certificate." Some of the topics to be addressed will be leader- ship styles and there ef- fects, skills and tools which can be used, practi- cally, in groups and func- tions that help groups be- come effective : A prerequisite for thi course is a familiarity and empathy with the Drei- kurs philosophy of parent- ing either by having par-. ticipated in a parent study group, or by having stud- ied Children The Chal- lenge.
