The Grade 7 girls team attended the Scugog Grade 7 Invitational Tour- T™nyryy nament held at Port Perry High School. The day began with a 22 to 2 victory over Central Park. Their second game was much closer, with Cartwright defeating Col. Fairwell 25 to 22. The two wins put Cartwright into the "A" Division. Coach Maring de- serves a big thank you for the time and effort he has given to basketball this year! : _-- Members of the Port Perry 'CCPS wins tournament Local wrestlers pick up medals On Saturday, April 20 the Port Perry Wrestling Club participated in the Provincial Novice, Kids and Bantam Champion- ships in Scarborough. Twelve boys wrestled in various weight classes-and eight came ,away * with medals. In the Bantam division . from S. A. Cawker Peter Landry placed sixth, and . Omar Sahi placed fifth; from: Sunderland, Joel Smith and Justin Gim- blett won bronze medals. In the Kids -division from S.A. Cawker Colin Holditch placed fourth; from Sunderland Trevor Copeland placed fourth and Quade Trodd won a gold medal; from Prince Albert Mark Sherriffs, Matt Sherriffs and Donny Sherriffs all won silver medals. In the Novice division from S. A. The league is limited to a maximum of 32 players. For $275 you can become a member of the league and play on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday af- ter 3 p.m. League play is on the Monday night with two tee off times at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The league records only nine hole scores on the Monday night but members are en- couraged to play 18 holes and stay around later for the 19th hole post game discussions. Weekly printouts will be provided for Monday night nine hole scores with handicap tracking and game improvement tips. There will be individual prizes awarded at the con- clusion of the year based on league play results. The league will run sev- eral formats each Monday and hold at least two tour- naments during the sea- son. Cawker hosted its" annual Scugog Grade 7 boys basketball tournament. Cornish de- feated Pringle Creek 35- 29, Waverly P.S. 33-28 and lost to Central Park 28-29 to advance to the B final. In the championship game Cornish defeated Adelaide McLaughlin 37- S. A. Cawker P.S. were defeated by Sunset Heightsin the "C" champi- onship and Col. Farewell defeated Ormiston P.S. in the "A" championship. This marks the 18th year this event has taken place and organizers John Hinch, Rob Smart and Ken Smart hope that the new board policy will not price it out of reach in the '97 season!
