If you attended this show you were more than enter- tained by the many facets of tal- ent that performed for nearly two hours. Congratulations to all those participants from the Grade 2 student to those not quite so young, we enjoyed you sharing your musical talents with us. Thanks to Suzanne Lee and Willie Stone for their time dnd effort it took to put together this tremendous evening. Sunday morning services at Greenbank United Church was a special time when the re- stored windows, the beautiful oak doors on the church en- trance, the door to the Sunday School entrance and a plaque in memory of Ernie Lee, who be- quested his home to Greenbank Church were presented by fami- lies of the church community. Thursday night we had 25 Beavers (Scouts) and par- ents in a great drive to clean up Putsey Park. Twenty- nine full bags of leaves were removed to the Blackstock transfer station Friday night. Steven Paradis and Ryan Grieve started at 6:30 .p-m. and walked one on each side of the road from Vines corner to almost the old school house picking up mis- cellaneous debris. They quit at 9 p.m. when it got dark with a good truck load. Saturday night we had Bradley Taylor and Edward Illingworth doing the same thing from the big pier to al- most the school house with another fair size load. . I regret at this time we have a half a mile to do. Our thanks to the above people for the great effort they put forth. To others, I remind you that throwing things out of your car or taking things to the transfer station which is not properly secure will re- ward you with a heavy fine under Scugog bylaws. This week May 4 to 11 a census representative will call on you in this area hand- ing out envelopes and asking a few questions. These forms are to be completed on May 14 and mailed. We had a great meeting last Tuesday night April 30 at the Port Perry Community Hall on education. I thank the young people who got up and spoke and those who came forth after the meeting and thanked me for my re- marks. I would have liked more input from the general public as it appeared a great deal came from teachers an- swered by school board repre- sentatives. But it was a good meeting. Joke of the Week: During my daughter's wedding re- hearsal, the minister asked if the rings were there to be placed on the Bible. Vernon Howard choirs anthem "Let us Praise the Lord," and a beautiful duet by Rita and Jackie Stickwood, "With Wings as Eagles," all had the message of love and dedica- tion. Redd Foster, whose untiring effort was to see that this day was possible presented a mem- ber of each family who then spoke on those being honored. It was a time of remembering our heritage and expressing hope for the future. Next Sunday, May 12 is Mother's Day and church ser- vices will be at 11:15 a.m. but: come early and join in the sing- a-long planned before services begin. On Sunday the Youth Group had a breakfast at Greenbank Church with the year 1896 in mind. The waitresses and caoks were all attired in heritage clothes, including long dresses, bonnets, top hats and bow ties: The price for an adult was 50 cents and children 25 cent. Our goal was not profit, we hosted this special Centennial break- fast in appreciation of the church and community's contin- uing support. Without this sup- port what we do would not be possible. A special thanks goes out to Dot Hooker, Suzanne Lee and Steve Quantrill, our lead- ers. Your encouragement is in- spiring and appreciated, and makes our future bright. All ladies of the community are invited to a bridal shower for Kerrie-Ann Gibson, on Satur- day, May 11 at 2 p.m. to be held at the home of Muriel Gibson. We extend our sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Morley Raines and family on the death of his sister Mrs. Grace Hadden of Wick. The weekend was moving time for some of our neighbors. Bill and Kim Owen will be resid- ing in Port Perry and Rod and Carol Couch are taking up resi- dence on Durham 6 east of Saintfield. We wish these fami- lies well in their new homes. Robert and Margaret Cou- perthwaite and granddaughter Becky attended the 75th birth- day party of Lola Reesor in Stouffville on Sunday and then enjoyed a visit with Margaret's granddaughter Heather and family in Oshawa. Utica and area news Utica Hall was a little busier than usual this past week, starting with the Wednesday evening euchre where there were 11 tables with the follow- ing winners: Ladies first - Ruth Skinner, second - Jean Pogue. Men's first - Lloyd Smith, sec- ond - Milton Anderson. Phyllis Pegg had the most lone hands. 50/60 was won by Joan Flem- ing. Door prizes were won by Gord Smith, Harry Hill, Ruth Skinner and Dori Hill. There will be another euchre in two weeks, May 15. On Saturday morning, bright and early, the Utica Daycare held their annual yard and bake sale on the hall grounds and from reports that I've received (unofficially) it was a very suc- cessful day. Saturday evening the hall board and the Epsom Public School SAC, joined forces to hold a dinner and dance. They robablv could have ace . Hated more, but a small group can also have a good time. This Sunday, May 12, Church and Sunday School will be held in Epsom starting at 9:30 a.m. The U.C.W. will hold their monthly meeting. on Tuesday, May 14 at 1 p.m. for dessert and refreshments, at the home of Grace Kirk. For roll call - a ques- tion or something pertaining to gardening. The Canadian Food Grains Bank project organizers have taken an early jump on spring work as they have the 35 acre corn project cultivated, thanks to Maurice Tapscott, and ferti- lized, thanks to the Sunderlana Co-op. As soon as the second cultivation is finished, the corn will be planted (weather per- mitting). Bethesda-Reach W.I. will be part of the Ontario North Dis- trict Annual meeting to be held in Sunderland on May 15 at 9:30 a.m. Sunderland branch is hosting this event. They were part of a group of Uxbridge Secondary School students who have taken French Immersion O.A.C. or Core French O.A.C., chosen to complete an eight day tour of France. The first Epsom School Com- munity Council met May 1 at the school. Some 50 members of the ex- tended Ashton family enjoyed an evening dinner get-together at the home of Faye and Keith on Sunday. Ruth Ashton was pleased to receive a phone call from our for- mer student minister Nelson LeGrow of Corner Brook, Nfld., relating his family happenings.
