Their goal is to provide a fun place to learn, play and socialize. STLL operates on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. from September to early June in the basement of the Port Perry United Church. Alendinginventorycon- sists of toys, children's vid- eos, games, books, puzzles and a steadily increasing selection of parent re- source books and videos for our members to enjoy. The aim is to offer families access to age appropriate high quality toys in a friendly social atmos- phere. During operating hours different areas are set up including a gross motor room with a large wooden climber, a quiet room for books and puzzles as well as story time, a puppet theater and large play area with area for small motor toys and a craft ta- ble, a coffee and snack area and on special occa- sions the auditorium is used for large parties. STLL is run by a hard- working volunteer board of directors, and has been in operation for seven years thanks to the spon- sorship of Port Perry Unit- ed Church. Every member is obliged to serve on a committee and assist with Agencies take part in display Approximately 35 local agencies will provide in- formation and education about their respective pro- grams at a "Mental Health Awareness Day" on Thurs- day, May 23 at Oshawa Centre, from 10 am. to 9 p-m. Some of the agencies represented will include the Canadian Mental Health Association, Whit- by Mental Health Centre, Interact Program, Pine- wood Centre and Crisis Unit of Oshawa General Hospital, COPE Mental Health Program, Durham Region Social Services, Alzheimer Society and more. the smooth operation of STLL. A new type of member- ship was introduced this year. Families whose chil- dren are cared for by gen- eral members may also join as a childcare family for a slightly higher fee. These members are not re- quired to serve on any committees. Late last year STLL ac- quired a computer to as- sist with the maintenance of our records. President Maureen Hall has been busy with this task in ad- dition to all her other du- ties. After thee years help- ing to steer the organization, Maureen has decided to concentrate solely on being the execu- tive responsible for a new committee set up to main- tain the computer. If you are interested in joining STLL for the 1996/ 97 season which starts in September, mark your cal- endar for May 23 at 7 p.m. in the lounge upstairs at Port Perry United Church.
