The local MPP ruffled coun- cil's feathers recently when he asked what their resolution on the facility was, calling it a mu- nicipal issue. Council subse- quently asked Mr. O'Togole to meet with them. Mayor Howard Hall told Mr. O'Toole on Monday that the township was not consulted during planning discussions, and therefore never made any resolutions on the casino. Several councillors expressed their concern with the gaming ~ facility and asked Mr. O'Toole's help in finding out who was tak- ing responsibility to see that all the building issues are looked after. Councillors expressed con- cerns with traffic, water quality and other issues surrounding the Great Blue Heron Enter- tainment Centre. ~ Mr. O'Toole admitted he too had legitimate concerns with the facility. Ward 3 Councillor Ken Gads- den said it has been no secret that he is opposed to the facility, mainly the size ofit. The Family and Community Action Plan will soon be providing the young moms with programs and facilities that will bring them together and plan for the future, said community facil- itator Claudia Miter. She said it couldn't have happened without strong sup- port from churches, service 'Warm community' backs committee - has been the most incredibly groups, teen parents and com- munity volunteers in Scugog. "I have to say Port Perry warm community," she said last week, in announcing a number of local initiatives. They include: 0 A toy-lending library and clothing exchange, which is to be established at Victory Christian Centre; 0 A community garden, where the young mothers will be growing their own vegeta- bles under the guidance of Penny Reid, a local organic farmer.
