Many interesting items of impor- tance to Dora and Harold over the years were displayed. A large crowd of relatives, friends and square dancing associates attended. The Blackstock Recreation Complex Committee is search- ing for old pictures depicting the history of Blackstock over the years to blow up, frame and display in the new foyer of the Rec Centre. Anyone with any information kindly call Chairman Blair Martyn or Secretary Wilma Van Camp. Speaking of history, there are still copies of several his- tory books of this area - name- ly Cartwright over the Years by Doreen Van Camp and the blue soft covered history of the area by the Agriculture Society. This year the sunflower contest at the Blackstock Fair . will not have seeds supplied. Instead buy your own seeds and grow some sunflowers. The contest will have two sec- tions - one for public school students and the other for high school and adults. So plant your sunflowers now so that you can enter at the Blackstock Fair on Aug. 24. Brian and Maggie Van Camp and Nathan of Saskatoon are visiting his parents Richard and Ruby Van Camp and other relatives in the area. On the weekend Brian and Maggie attended Maggie's cousins wedding in Montreal while Nathan stayed with grandma and grandpa Van Camp. On Monday, Ruby and Richard are hosting a family gather- ing. Attending are Louise and Jeff Carrell and family of London, Lois and Glenn McLeod and family of Orono, Lawrence and Jan Van Camp, Brian and Maggie and Nathan and Jill Van Camp and her friend Mike of Bermuda. At the regular morning ser- vice of the Blackstock United Church the sacrament of Baptism was held when three children were received. They were Jamie Lee Nichelle, daughter of Leslie and William Martin, Cameron Ronald, son of Sandra and Ronald Jorgensen and Shaylyn Jaimie, daughter of Sandra and Scott Tell. During the service the senior choir sang "Train Up a Child" and Blackstock by . Janice Barber sang the beau- tiful anthem "Heirlooms." Rev. David Shearman preached a very thoughtful sermon "It Won't Wash Off." He was assisted in the service by Student Intern Minister Ron Brittain who will be work- ing with the congregation until the end of August. Sandra and Scott Tell of "Smiths' Woods" hosted a fam- ily gathering following church service in honor of Shaylyn's Baptism. Guests were Tom and Jean Bokovay, Karen Bokovay, George and Grace Durham, Rob Durham all of Scarborough, Jeff and Barb Lockhard and family of Pickering and their neighbors, Connie and Steve VanDeBurgt. Louise and Ron Jorgensen, Gregory and Scott of Caesarea hosted a family gathering in honor of Cameron's Baptism. Guests were his grandparents Ron and Peggy Scott and his Aunt Jean Mollet, all of Toronto. St. John's Anglican Church was graced this Sunday with a visit from Royal St. George's College Choir. The members present included Charles Fowler, Tom Wade West, Tim Pyper and Jamie Bergstra. Organ prelude and recessional were performed by Tim and a beautiful organ/French horn duet by Tim and Tom accom- panied the communion. Their moving vocal and instrumen- tal arrangements added a very special touch to the . Mother's Day Service. Many, many thanks to Dr. Andrew Barlow for bringing this group to be with the morning wor- ship. Sympathy ef the communi- ty is extended to Brenda and George Bryant and family on the passing of Brenda's moth- er Mrs. "Toots" Ormiston of Brooklin this week. Several from this area attended either the visitation or the funeral which was held in Whitby. There were 11 tables at the weekly card party with the following winners: Merrill Van Camp, Elwood Manns, Merv Storrie, Russell Brown, Vera Asselstine, Marie Gibson and Helen Dorrell. Winners of the draws were Freda Twyman, Jean Porrill, Gordon Finney, Marie Geer (two), and Charlie Campbell. THE BLACKSTOCK W.I. May meeting was held on May 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Blackstock United Church. President May Shortridge welcomed the 14 members and four visitors. The Ode was sung and the Mary Stewart Collect repeated. Business was dealt with as usual. Roll Call was answered by an old-fashioned remedy we used years ago. Dora Martyn reported on the Essay Contest for the public school students. Donations were made to the Heart and Stroke Fund and Kidney Foundation. Greetings to our group from the District President Brenda Metcalfe who joined us-for the meeting. Topic was Planting Your Garden. We have three new mem- bers at the Blackstock W.I. Dora Martyn introduced the two guest speakers Karen Coxon, physiotherapist who spoke and showed a video on back problems and Kathy Payne-Mercer, occupational therapist who spoke on haz- ards in the home. The speak- ers were thanked by Pat Sleep and given a plant as a gift. Entertainment was the No Name Choir who sang three songs led by Carol Edgar. Looking ahead to Saturday, May 25, the Hall Board are hav- ing a yard and bake sale and are looking for donations from the community. Donated goods may be left at the hall on May 23 or 24 be- tween 7 and 9 p.m. For sale will be the piano that survived the fire when the old hall burned ~ down. The speak- er is Ron Owde who will be speaking on strategic planning Utica & Epso for the Cottage Hospital in Ux- bridge. We were sorry to hear of the passing of Ruth Boadway last week. Sympathy to her family from her friends and former neighbors of Epsom and Bethes- da. Happy birthday to Rebecca Aked who was 11 years old on Sunday the 12th. Stephen and Alison Aked and girls were visited on the week- end by Stephen's parents and sister Heather of B.C. and sister Caroline of Toronto. On Satur- Surviving piano's on block at bake sale Saturday, May 25 day they were in attendance, along with John and Jane Brad- bury, when Cassandra Aked re- ceived her first communion at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Perry. Along with family and friends they returned to the Aked home in Utica for a celebration of this event. On Sunday, Cassandra Aked and Andy Sanchez attended a birthday party for their friend Emily Potier which was held at the Northwood Ranch. My son Charlie and family visited from Arnherstview on Friday to celebrate an early Mother's Day by taking me to lunch. Saturday daughter Doro- thy, Dennis and Jeremy Gerrow visited with me. Darlene Christie entertained the Payne family to dinner on Friday. They included Steve and family of Port Perry, Bren- da Leeker from Burks Falls and Denise Marchand and family of Whitby. Trust all the mothers en- joyed their special day on Sun- day with family and loved ones. Next Sunday, the sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be cel- ebrated at Burns' Church. The Ladies' Bible Class will meet on Wednesday evening, May 15 at 8 p.m. at Aldine Wick's home. Happy birthday to Betty Dutton who celebrated a spe- cial birthday on Sunday. Her family held an open house in her honor, which was held at Betty's home. Doug and Florence Ashton, Ron and Pat Ashton and Ar- nold enjoyed dinner at the home of Stuart and Jean McEntyre recently.
