During the service there was a presenta- tion of Sunday School certifi- cates to the Sunday School pu- pils. There will be no further classes until fall. Special thanks to Brooklin Horticulture Society who placed a beautiful mixed bou- quet of flowers in the sanctuary. This is one of the ways they are celebrating their 75th Anniver- sary. A flower arrangement was also placed in the Marthex in loving memory of the late Wal- ter Bryant who passed away in Lindsay last week. The Ladies' Bible Class met at the home of Aldine Wick on Wednesday night, May 15. The meeting opened with the sing- ing of "How Great Thou Art." Sheila Parrott read the scrip- ture from Luke 3: 1-14. Aldine's meditation was' titled "Your Own Back Yard" based on verse 14. Sheila led in prayer. The hymn "Living for Jesus was sung." Grace Hopkins was in charge of the program. She shared with us several read- ings, "A Mother's Influence," and "Progress Down on the Farm." Bernice Gardner gave a reading "A Magic Word." Aldine served us yummy strawberry shortcake and a cup of tea. The June meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at Bernice Gardner's home. Brooklin Horticulture will meet on Wednesday, May 22 at 8 p.m. at Brooklin United Church. This will be the first flower show of the season with 37 classes. There should be a good selection of spring flowers available for the show, as this warm weather has really done wonders in the garden. Special speaker will be Bertha Barnes who will discuss "Growing Great Gladiolus," a subject of interest to all those who enjoy planting gladiolus in their gar- den. ' Also don't forget the giant plant auction sale scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Grass Park, Baldwin Street (Hwy. 12) Brooklin. New mem- bers and the general public are welcome to attend this event. Featured for sale will be annu- als, perennials, trees, seedlings, shrubs, vegetables and house plants, all grown by society members and friends. Do come out and support your local socie- ty, as this is the major fundrais- ing event of the year. You will enjoy the fun of mingling with your garden friends, as well as obtaining some new and inter- esting plant material to liven up your garden. Everyone is invited to an open house at Windreach Farm on Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (rain or shine). Win- dreach offers experiences in na- ture and farming for small groups of disabled and able. The canteen will be open for light snacks. Sounds like a fun day for all, with the petting zoo, crown, face painting, live band, hayrides and much more. Win- dreach is located at 312 Town- Ins Rd. just east of Lakeridge Special birthday greetings to Dr. John McKinney who cele- brated his 92nd year on Sunday. On Sunday, May 26 the Prince Albert United Church will be joining with Port Perry at 10 a.m. for a special service led by the Clown Min- istry Troupe from Black- stock. This is a unique Chris- tian ministry for everyone. Everyone is invited to attend the congregational picnic at Birds Eye Bark later. Scugog Island United Church The Stewards were busy this week fixing up the church yard. Rev. Bruce White was our guest speaker at our regular worship service on Sunday morning. Rev. White is the Chaplain of Bowmanville Hospital. The High School Supper Club will meet on Tuesday, May 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Moms and Tots will meet on Wednesday, May 22 at 9:30 a.m. Country Jamboree to be held June 8 Choir practice will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p-m. There will be an organiza- tional meeting for Vacation Bible School on Friday, May 24 at 10a.m. at S.I.U.C. The Youth Group will meet on Friday, May 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. There will be a special ser- vice of Pentecost and the cel- ebration of the church's birthday on Sunday, May 26. Our orchestra will be provid- ing special music. Sunday, June 2 is Confer- ence Sunday and the Grace U.C.W. will be in charge of the service. The guest speak- er will be Bob Heayn of Ajax. Refreshments will be served following the service. The Grace U.C.W. will be meeting for lunch at Hau- gens on Wednesday, June 5. A Country Jamboree will be held at Scugog Island United Church on Saturday, June 8 at 6 p.m. Hot dogs and chili will be served. Pot luck salads and desserts greatly appreciated. Bring lawn chairs and dress to a western theme. Entertainment will be provided. All ages are wel- come to join in this time of fel- lowship. A service of Communion will be held on Sunday, June 9. Men and women are want- ed at S.I1.U.C. to plan activi- ties for the children during our June, July and August workshop services. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.
