Cartwright holds 30-hour famine Students go hungry to raise funds Seventy Blackstock stu- dents will be going hungry for a good cause this week. The Cartwright High School will be taking part in a 30-hour famine to raise money for poverty- striken families. The OAC World Issues Geography Class, headed by teacher Craig Morri- son, 1s organizing the fa- mine in co-operation with World Vision Canada. The idea behind the fa- mine is to raise money and awareness for children and their families who are suffering the effects. of poverty in Third World Countries. TOM Now Open To The Public The students will arrive at school on May 23 where they will share a quick breakfast together. For the next 30 hours they will spend time playing educa- tional games oriented around the theme as well as spending time teaching the students at Cart- wright Public School about the famine and whatit stands for. "This continued decline in the social assistance caseload is encouraging," he said. The month of March saw a total of 291,500 house- holds, representing 516,000 people, receiving general welfare. An additional 320,417 households, repre- senting some 700,000 people were receiving longer- term assistance through family benefits.
