The Port Business Improvement Area (BIA), along with individual merchants in the downtown core, have been holding talks with a production company that's taking over Queen St. Thursday (May 30) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The BIA wants to make sure that business people are com- pensated for any inconvenience or loss of business caused by the movie crew, which is filming scenes for a made-for-television movie here. Daphne Mitchell of the BIA, who's among the local people talking with film makers Crime Productions Ltd., said the deal hammered out for this week's shoot will set the precedent for future filming ventures here. The BIA has been pushing for a fee schedule that would see film companies compensating downtown merchants, and an amount paid in trust to be reim- bursed when the company ful- fills its obligations to the busi- ness people.
