With superintendent George Hill in charge it was a service of singing, led by Chris- topher Shaw, and special music by the choir. Guest speakers were Lori Ward, Diane Pelletier and Jan Robinson, who spoke about their part in 'Equip 96 Conference in Burlington. Charlene Shepherd spoke on "Good Books." A social hour fol- lowed. Next Sunday will be Green- bank Sunday School Anniver- sary and the children are in charge of the service, also the Puppets will entertain. We in- vite all former Sunday School students and teachers to join in the special day as part of our Centennial Year. The service begins at 11 a.m. and a social hour will follow. Would the Utica & Epsom Upcoming Events: This Wednesday, May 29 there will be a euchre in Uti- ca Hall starting at 8 p.m. All are welcome. Sunday, June 2, Church service will be held in Utica at 9:30 a.m. with Shirley Baster providing worship leadership as John and Heather will be attending Toronto Conference. Sunday at 2:30 p.m. will be the annual decoration ser- vice at Breadalbane Presby- terian Church in Utica. Tuesday, June 4 will be the regular Utica Hall Board meeting in the hall starting at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 9 will be the celebration of the 125th An- niversary of Utica United Church combined with the annual decoration service for Hillman and Kendall ceme- teries. This is to be held at 2 p.m. and will have Rev. Edith Ann Shanz as guest speaker and will feature the Epsom-Utica United Church choir. Did you know? - that the Epsom-Utica Pastoral Charge began in 1876? To- gether with Greenbank, it was known as the Reach Cir- cuit and the first minister was Rev. George Richardson. He received $300 (salary); $250 (food/lodging); $36 (wood); $6 (horse shoeing); $60 (horse keep); $15 (inci- dentals). Total $666. This is an invitation for all to come and celebrate. Church celebrates They were blessed with ex- cellent weather and made a tidy profit for upcoming reno- vations. Credit for this event goes to Judy MacSween and Georgina Sutcliffe who were the organizers. Donations came from as far away as Udora and were really appre- ciated. Bethesda-Reach Women's Institute took in the Blue Jay's ball game on Saturday afternoon as part of the early celebration of 100 years of W.1. The official celebration will be held in Stoney Creek - Hamilton in June, 1997. The provincial president of Onta- rio, Mrs. Marg Harris of Ker- wood, Ontario, threw the opening pitch. It is with sadness we report the death of Rev. Jack Roundell who passed away last Thursday after a short illness in Pem- broke Hospital. Willie and Betty Stone, Mur- ray and Shirley Lee attended the memorial service which was held last Friday from Caloin United Church Pembroke. Congratulations to Trevor and Allison Till on the safe arri- val of their wee baby daughter, another granddaughter for Glen and Mary Jean Till. The Lions Club are running their second annual Golf Com- petition starting on June 1 at Country Acres Driving Range on Highway 7A west of Port Perry. First prize will be $1,000 with 44 other prizes. Last Saturday evening was the last performance of another successful year for the Green- bank Folk Music Society who have held once a month musical evening in Greenbank Hall since last September. Congrat- ulations to everyone on a year of great entertainment and that every concert was a sellout is a credit to those who work to make this possible. The Lions Club of Greenbank are pleased to sponsor Ryan McBride this summer who is playing fastball with Port Perry Merchants Bantam team. We hope Ryan and his teammates have a successful year. On Wednesday, June 19 the Greenbank Lions Club will be holding the second annual "Community Volunteer Award" evening when the Lloyd and Marion Lee Plaque will be awarded. As usual they will be having experienced entertain- ers. The programs are new and different featuring different artists and performers each week. Scugog Island United Church Last week the Stewards laid sod around the south side of the church. Saturday they were again busy. This time they put down a hard surface under the picnic shelter and the south driveway and installed a sand box. Now we are ready for our upcoming Country Jamboree. Special thanks to the men for their hard work and for the la- dies who provided refresh- ments. On Sunday the service was a Celebration of Pentecost and during Sunday School the chil- dren enjoyed a birthday party to celebrate the church's birthday. The choir sang a beautiful an- Scugo island by them called "River in Judea." We were also pleased to have our orchestra with us. Sympathy is sent to the fami- ly and friends of Bob Wilson of Uxbridge who died on the week- end. Bob has been the caretaker of Greenbank Cemetery for many years and grew up in the village.
