Week one fell victim to Mother Nature and her blessings of rain and thunder showers which forced the rescheduling of many games. Like last year there will be a quiz section of "Know The Rules." Questions will be taken from official rule books as well as from special incorporated CMB rules. "Know The Rules - Week #1 Question: Are CMB players allowed to wear short pants for regular scheduled games? Read on for the answer. Squirt Mann's Cornhuskers 8 Martyn Consulting Flyers 3 In a rain shortened game the Cornhuskers pre- vailed as they built up an early lead and held on to win before the skies opened to force the early finish. The winners were led by the doubles of Megan Ma- cArthur and Casie Shortridge while Chris Goble made an unassisted double play and Melissa Killen made a great catch at second base to lead the defen- sive corps. Craig Asselstine led Martyn's with a home run while Chelsea Mateo collected a triple. Fielding gems were the great catch by Julia Martyn and a tag out at home by catcher Terry Damant to save a run. T-Ball H&M Wright Sox 11 Spring Grove Agri-Vaders 9 In a relatively low scoring game the Sox got two runs each from Aaron Wright, Tyson Dale and Kris- ten Billings while Charlyn Stinson had a strong game in the field The Vaders offense was led by the runs scored by Zachery Grove and Brandon Pearson while Jesse Taggart and Jennifer Yellowlees played strong de- fensive games. Snap On Tool Giants 17 Spanky's Spartans 12 In another close game the Giants won their opener as Eric Draper led the winners with a home run whil Megan Ferguson had two hits and Thomas Prender- gast played a fine game in the field. Cody Parker had a triple and Ryan Dillion and Colten James had doubles to spark the Spartans of- fense. Defensively Warren Jackson led his team with a strong game on the field. Mites Port Perry IGA Expos 22 Lishman's Fur Traders 9 A total team effort which included 27 hits led the Expos to their first win of the season. Included in the hits was an off field homerun by Shawn McNa- mara and triples by Chase James, Gage Billings and Brandon Jordan. Defensively IGA was led by the excellent pitching of Hayley Campbell and the fine play a third base by T.J. Parker. The Traders were led by the doubles of Mitch Tru- ax, Nicky Jones and Michael Parr while Mary Van Camp and Cody Rundle each had a hard hit single. The Spos broke the game open scoring the maxi- mum six runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. United Church 5 Turner's Green Giants 1 A two run RBI double by Kory Prosser proved to be the key hit as the Saints won their season opener. Prosser along with Mark Carnaghan pitched well to hold the Giants to just one run. Ashley Lucas led the Giants pitching three in- nings of hitless ball as well as scoring her teams only run. Senior : Campbell Electric Raiders 17 Dr. Workman Hawkeyes 12 Ryan Whittick proved to be the difference as he scored four runs including a third inning home run and pitched great to lead the Raiders to the victory. Krystal Bartley also pitched well while Adrian Op- pers hit a double. Campbell's used call up Chris Go- ble who played a strong game at short stop. Sean Warren had a round tripper for the Hawk- eyes as well as providing some great defense. Rob Watson had three hits and Holly Westall two to lead the offense. Defensively Jesse McKendry played well as did Stephanie Jackson. Baseball Again this year our baseball teams are playing in the Clarington Minor Baseball Association (MCBA). CMB has a Mosquito team as well as a Peewee team. If their first two games are an indication then the Asselstine Country Mosquito team should have a successful and winning season. For their first game they travelled to Orono and won easily 21-2. Every player scored at least once with Robert Larmer leading the way with two hits and scoring three times. On defense the excellent pitching of Johnathan Wotten and Craig Asselstine held the home team in check allowing only two runs. Their second game was another trek. south to Courtice where the Asselstine crew won by a very convincing 31-5. Like game one every player crossed the plate. This time all players scored at least two times with Mike Hobbs and Tyler Martin scoring four runs each. Alex Dejong led the defense with a strong game at backcatch. "Know the Rules" Answer is No. Players arriving in short pants will not be allowed to play that game. The umpires have been told to strictly enforce this rule. All players, parents and coaches are encour- aged to make themsleves aware of this rule as well as the others. So long for now. See you at the park! + school or to register call 723-8768 or 666-5927.
