Shannon Pickford led the Psalm 23 reading and Amanda Hill Seagrave read the gospel scripture "The storm from The Fount Bible" she also played a piano solo "Alex- as Bell." The choir sang "All night All day Angels watching over me" accom- panied by the organist Muriel Jebson. Christopher Shaw of Greenbank played his gui- tar and led in a song time which was enjoyed by the whole congregation. Three guest speakers from Greenbank and Pine- dale Lori Ward. Diane Pel- letier and Jan Robinson gave reports on the "Equip '96" conference at Burling- ton which they had at- tended. They presented some new ideas and visual aides for Sunday School teachers. Charlene Shep- herd showed some good children's books and video Grandview gets new equipment In celebration of May as Speech and Hearing Month, Grandview Chil- dren's Centre recently be- came the first treatment centre in Ontario to ac- quire sophisticated new computer equipment for testing the hearing of the children they work with. Sharon Woodcox, an Au- diologist at Grandview, is very excited about the new equipment: "This new equipment will allow us to test a child's hearing fast- er, more accurately and with less discomfort," said Ms. Woodcox. "This tech- nology is a significant im- provement from the other equipment we were using, which was more than 12 yearsold." One new piece of equip- ment is called an impe- dance bridge, which as- sesses how healthy a child's ears are. "It tells us in 10 seconds how healthy a child's ear is and how mobile the ear drum is," says Ms. Woodcox. "Once we have this information, we have an indication of what we can expect from their hearing and we can take further action from there." The second piece of equipment is called a diag- nostic audiometer. It measures a child's ability to hear sounds over a range of frequencies. "Our old equipment re- quired all documentation to be gathered manually," explains Ms. Woodcox. "Now all results are creat- ed by computer and the records are stored auto- matically in a database." The new equipment goes far in enabling Grandview to provide the best level of service, says Grandview's Executive Director Linda Watson. "The fact that we are the first facility in Ontario to have this equipment dem- onstrates Grandview's commitment to the chil- dren of our community." Grandview Children's Centre offers a range of outpatient services for children and young adults with physical and commu- nication disabilities throughout Durham Re- gion.
