Overridge Flames § Blackstock Lions 3 In a traditional tight Tyke tussle the Overridge Fireplace Flames won their season opener 5-3 over the Lions Cubs. The Flames took the lead for good in the third scoring four runs after the Cubs had built up a 3-1 lead. Matthew Ferguson's hit combined with three walks led to the victory. The winners got two runs from Owen Brouwer plus singles from Bryan McNa- mara, Logan Malcolm and Caitlyn Hellingman. Rina Prendergast scored two runs for the Cubs after some aggres- sive base running. Sean Taylor collected a single while Jack Horner scored a run. Robbie Gonnerman got bonked in the forehead from an errant throw late in the game but is expect- ed back for the next game. Analda Athletics 9 Wotten Hammerhds. 5 Mercedes Weber was the offensive game star for the Athletics as she had two triples which drove in three runs. Jus- tin Kennedy was the de- fensive hero providing some excellent pitching in the middle innings. Donald Shaw led Wot- ten's with a round tripper while Myles Romain had two put outs while playing first base and Dustin Parker pitched well to lead the defensive side. Swain Seed Sluggers 17 Mann's Cornhuskers 6 A total team effort showed its worth as the Sluggers won their first game in convincing fash- ion. The pitching trio of Mark Morrison, Steven Blundon and Tyson Pre- scott held the Huskers to six runs. Kristy Brooks made an unassisted dou- ble play while Heather Lee Jones and Darryl Goulding played strong games at back catcher. Mann's were led defen- sively by the pitching of Chris Goble, Russell Jack- son and Bradley Sutcliffe while Lindsay Sweetman, Casie Shortridge, Carl Geer and Adam Stapley showed fleet footedness on base paths. Martyn Flyers 22 Swain Seed Sluggers 14 A total team effort proved the difference as the Flyers evened their record at 1-1. Chelsea Ma- teo and Ivan Drisdelle led the pitchers while the bats got booming by Tim Mar- tyn, Michelle Noseworthy, Ben Marshall and the Da- mant brothers Kevin and Terry. Offensively the Slug- gers were led by triples from Heather Lee Jones and Kristi Brooks as well as strong bats by Rebekah Van Oostveen and Darryl Goulding. On the field Tyson Pre- scott made an unassisted double play while Steven Blundon and Mark Morri- son turned in some fine pitching performances. Winters Paint Storm 21 Cummings Diggers 5 Two home runs each by Jamie Gimblett and Ste- phen Vine led the Storm to victory. Offensive stars were Lawrence MacDon- ald and Alanna Holland with triples. IGA built up an 11-3 lead after two innings and scored the maximum six runs and three times in their four at bats. United Ch. Saints 18 Lishman's14 Timely hitting and great pitching led the Saints to their second win. The winners led 4-1 after one inning as Mark Car- naghan drove in three runs after Nicole Beechey and Michael Van Camp had singled. Lishman's kept the game close as Kayla Evans scored on Mitch Truax's home run. Leading the run scor- ing was Jenna Finnegan who scored three times. Offensively the Vaders were spirited by the two hits of Jennifer Yellowlees and three runs scored by Laken Kearnan. In field Meagan Moore played a fine defensive game. M&M Wright Sox 17 Snap-On Giants 16 In a close fought game the Sox had two hit ggmes from Michael Shaw Kir- sten Billings and Natalie Waters who had a home run as one of the hits while Aaron Wright and Char- layn were the defensive stars for the winners. Jessie Nelson, Thomas Prendergast and Jordan Bishop had two hits as well as two runs each. De- fensively the Giants got fine performances from Corey Vanderwiel and Da- kota Newell. The Spartans start- ed quick scoring nine runs in their half of the initial inning. Danielle Levac led Spanky's with a three for three game while Melissa Hudson and Leslie Sweet- man played great in the field. Meanwhile the Sox scored consistently with Jessica Malone and Scott Banks gathering three hits each as well as scoring three times each. On the field Kirsten Billings made several force outs at second base. Campbell El. Raiders 9 Welding Rods 8 In this game the out- come wasn't decided until the bottom half of the last inning as a double by De- ryk Campbell drove in the deciding run as Camp- bell's remain undefeated. The winners were aided by the excellent pitching of Campbell and Tish Haer- tel while Krystal Bartley chipped in with three hits including a double. The Steelers got some fine pitching from Ryan Prescott and Daryl Dean while Steven Paradis col- lected two singles. Campbell's used call-up Jessica McLaughlin, who turned in a great effort. 'Welding Rods 10 Don Frew & Sons 10 In a rare senior tie both teams settled for the draw as the Steelers got fine pitching from Ryan Pre- scott and Daryl Dean. The two also combined for a to- tal of five hits. Emma Mar- shall had two hits for Welding Rods while Ash- ley Sauder made a fine de- fensive play at second. Defense earned the tie for the Aggies as Troy - Mappin gunned down sev- eral runners while catch- ing and Amanda Drew made some fine fielding plays at second base. Offensively Jamie Budge was four for four in- cluding a triple while Dar- ryl Keeler was three for three with a home run. Asselstine Country 29 China Buffet 5 Another total team ef- fort led to a lopsided win as the Country crew upped their record to 3-0. Johna- than Wotten continued to impress collecting two home runs as part of his four hits. Craig Jourdrey also homered and Patrick Wotten chipped in with a clutch two run RBI double. Again every player scored atleast two times. Asselstine Country 26 M& M Meats 4 This win ran Assel- stine's production total for the season to an amazing 107 runs in just four games. This game was the home opener and they con- tinued swinging the bat well collecting 20 hits. Robert Larmer had four hits while call-up Bradley Sutcliffe went three for three including a triple. The team also used call-up Adam Stapley who held his own as the team turned in a fine defensive game. Coaches Reminders 1. Please make an extra - effort to get game reports handed in on time. Merchant Bantam action On Monday, May 27, the Merchant Bantams trav- elled to Fennell's Corners to take on the "Flyers" and unfortunately, a win was still elusive as the Flyers downed them 4-1. Again, the Merchants' bats were silenced as the Flyers only allowed three hits, two singles to Michael Versage and a single to Chris Jones. Brad Monsma was issued two walks and Clay Brown and Derek Tin- dall each got one. Clay Brown pitched, registering four runs on four walks, four hits and seven strikeouts. There were four errors in the field which also contributed to the loss. The team practiced hard on Wednesday and hope to change their fortune next week as they travel to Richmond Hill for a game and also to St. Catharines to participate in a tournament. Next home game is Sunday, June 9 at the south di- amond, Water St. at 1 p.m. when they will face Bra- malea in a double header.
