"A Family Tradition for 130 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 4, 1996 - 29 SProrTS Peewee MoJacks on the wrong end of a 9-2 thumping The Peewee ModJacks played a league game against East Gwillumbury on Thursday, May 28 and came out on the wrong end of a 9-2 score. The MoJacks started the night in difficulty when they found themselves short three regular players (two of them - the team's catchers). However, call-ups from the Squirt Legionnaires - Geoff Grieveson and Luke Pilkey stepped in and helped the MoJacks out. Thanks guys!! Chris Monsma played behind the plate and did well for his catching debut! He even picked off a run- ner at third base in the fifth inning. Tim Jones pitched, recording five hits, four walks and nine strikeouts. Geoff Grieveson came on in the last inning to get the final outs and end the game. Mike Wiseman had a big night at the plate with a perfect two for two outing (two singles) and an RBI. Jeff Kane also had a good night getting two singles in three turns. Aaron Lycett recorded the only other hit - also a single. Chris Monsma earned two free passes and Cory McQuade got one. Thanks again to Luke and Geoff for helping out! The ModJacks will be out of town next week as they fave) to Pickering, Oshawa and Scarborough. The first game of the week was on Monday, May 271in Oshawa and the mer- chants fell behind quickly in this game as Oshawa jumped into a 6-0 lead af- ter two innings of play. But then the Merchants woke up so to speak and actually won the rest of the game by a 3-1 score. The last part of the game looked good for the Mer- chants but they still lost the game by a 7-3count. | The Merchant offense was lead by Darryl Moase who had two singles and a walk, Jason Logan picked up a walk and a towering home run and Jason Best picked up a walk, Marshal McQuade pitched the game for the Greenbank, Port Mites in meeting . On Wednesday, May 29, the Port Perry PCO Team travelled to Greenbank Park to play the Green- bank Bakery team. Both teams played a great game, with the PCO team coming up with the win. The PCO team made many excellent plays, in- cluding flies caught by Patrick McKinlay and Mark Forderer and super pitching by Andrew Wray and Jessica Foster. The Greenbank Bakery squad played a tight game with good defensive skills in the field by all, includ- ing Matthew Hertzberg, Katelyn Lee and Sara Drexler. Fine effort at the plate, including doubles by Kyle Manchee and Scott Stone (two). "STAR" CLASSIFIEDS GET THE RESULTS YOU WANT... ...
