Thanks to: Region schools will be subjects for German documentaries Durham public schools will be featured in a docu- mentary being shot by German film makers. Representatives from the Carl Bertelsmann Foundation will visit Sin- clair S.S. and South Sim- coe P.S. from June 10 to 15 for the purpose of making a short documentary. The representatives will spend two days in each location filming a va- riety of activities and not- ing the special culture and atmosphere of the schools. The crew will interview students and teachers, as well as parents, Durham Board staff, community members and business representatives. Famous German film producer Reinhard Kahl will be in charge of the filming. Two versions of a documentary will be made: a six minute ver- sion for viewing at the presentation of the Carl Bertelsmann award to take place on September 12 in Germany; a 30 min- ute version to be shown on German television and distributed as a video. The Bertelsmann Foun- dation, in Germany, an- nounced earlier this spring that it had chosen upholstered - we can do it! This year's focus is education. The Durham Board is the only finalist from North America. The other finalists are from Hun- gary, the Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Swit- zerland and New Zealand. Durham 'Board repre- sentatives have been in- vited to visit Frankfort on an all-expense-paid basis this September for the an- nouncement of the overall winner of the Bertel- smann award. The win- ner will receive a cash award for just over $300,000. The visitors will meet the representa- tives of the German school system to stimulate organ- izational development in German schools, exchange ideas about education and examine network-related interests.
