For the past four weeks I have spent time trying to locate someone to write the Nestleton News. I mentioned it at the Pine Ridge Garden Club meeting Pork Roast in Putsey Park for By Gwen Malcolm Nestleton United Church On Sunday, June 8 there was an average attendance at Nestleton United Church. Pianist Kate Mairs played a delightful prelude prior to . the service. Student Intern Ron Brittain conducted the service as Rev. Shearman was attending a communica- tions event for the United Church. The Scripture read- ings and sermon were based on the faith walk of Abraham and Sarah. A trio of Regenia Walker, Shirley Jackson and Kate Mairs sang nicely a Ron Klusmeier song, "O Holy Spirit". Carol Mairs accom- panied on the piano. Offering was received by Carol Hill and Art Weir. Service closed with, "Go Now in Peace." VanNest Reunion On Sunday, June 8, sixty- five descendants of William and Eliza VanNest met for their yearly reunion at the Nestleton Community Cen- tre. From Kingston, Brant- ford, Oshawa, Greenbank, Sandford and Nestleton they came to visit family mem- bers. A bounteous pot luck meal and a lively sports ses- sion made for a most enjoya- ble day. Glad to report that Mabel Cawker is improving steadily in hospital. She is hoping to move to the Villa before too long if all goes well. Nestleton Presbyterian Church The regular Church Ser- vice at 11 a.m. was conducted by Rev. Willialm Fairley in the Nestleton Presbyterian Church. Ushers were Sandra Sorley and Graham Ham. Dorothy Lee played the piano for the hymns, and Joyce Taylor was unable to be present. Responsive Psalm was #86, and Scripture readings were from Genesis 18, and Matthew 10. Those who are in hospital, and also those who are ill were remembered in our prayers. Holy Communion will be held on June 23 at 11 a.m. Service. Next Sunday will be observed as Father's Day. For the Sunday following Trinity, Rev. Fairley spoke on the hospitality of Abra- ham, and the announcement of Sarah going to have a child. God's love is with us for all time. Lunch and fellow- ship in Sunday School Hall following the service. You are welcome to wor- ship with us. and have asked several people, but no one wants to take the challenge. All you have to do is write it up. I'll pick it up at your home and take it in to the pa- pers. Your article appearsin the Port Perry Star on Tuesday and in the Lindsay Daily Post usual- ly on Wednesday. I can assure you, you'll become very popular. The only problem is people call you by your first name and you don't know who they are. Mabel after 20 years feels like she will not be able to carry on. We the people whom have en- joyed her column must pay Ma- bel Cawker a special award for her years of service to her com- munity. Maybe Regatta week- end would be a good time. Thank you Mabel! We are thankful to Gwen Malcolm for pitch hitting temporarily in Ma- bel's absence. Keep your neighbourhood alive by keeping them in- formed. With the late winter and spring I don't know how the birds did it. Last week I noticed a lot of baby birds on the ground and trying to fly from branch to branch. How did they m@hage to keep them warm and attend to feeding them, plus other things with the weather being the way it has been. Our best wishes to Dave Diet- lein who is going into the hospi- tal Wednesday for a very impor- tant check up. You know they only gave Dave a 30 per cent chance of pulling through. He says he feels great and I'm sure the test will prove he's beat it. Good luck Dave. Joke of the Week A couple of well to do friends met after a number of years. Af- ter a few drinks Benny bragged about how popular he is . Fred bet him he didn't know Mike Harris so they dropped around Correspondent needed for Nestleton news to his home and sure enough, they were old friends. Fred bet him he didn't know President Clinton so they travelled to Washington and sure enough they were invited to dine with the President and his family. They took a trip to Europe to- gether and here Fred bet Benny a million dollars he did't know the Pope. Benny forced his way through the erowd and got to the balcony and there the two of them stood alone. Benny looked down and there was Fred flat on the ground. He rushed down to see what happened. Fred who had come to said, "I was stand- ing here and some guy tapped me on the shoulder and asked. "Who's that standing next tc Benny?"
