A spokesman at 26 Division in Port Perry said that a num- ber of youths were spotted in the area of a garage in Manchester around 2 a.m. Saturday (June 15) by a resi- dent who grew suspicious, and called police. Police responded and caught up with five youths, who had in their possession two motor- cycle tires and a motorcycle engine. Another youth who had fled the scene was caught a short time later. buses and a locked trailer dur- ing the break-in, police said. Six young offenders have been charged with breaking and entering and possession of stolen property. Robbery foiled A brazen thief was scared off by a homeowner last week. Police said that around 12:30 in the afternoon last Monday (June 10), someone entered an Allan St. home by the front door while the owner was in the backyard, and made off with two purses. A neighbor saw the man leave and alerted the homeowner, who gave chase. During the pursuit the thief dumped the purses in long grass near Ash St. and ran on, eventually jumpinginto a white car driven by another man, police said. The suspect is described as a white male in his 20's or 30's with a stocky build and shoul- der-length brown hair. He was wearing a Montreal Canadiens t-shirt, a ball cap, and a black windbreaker. The purses and their con- tents were recovered. Big break-in haul Durham Police are investi- gating a break-in at the north end of the township that saw a huge haul in property removed. Police said someone entered the home on the Scugog-Brock Town Line between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday (June 14), making off with a large quantity of stereo equipment, televisions and VCRs, camera equipment, jewelry, money, and numerous other items. Police are also investigating the theft of a 1987 Honda ATV from an Old Scugog residence over night June 12 to 13. The machine was secured to a tree but the chain was cut, police said. Materials stolen A neighbor watched as a load of plywood was stolen from the Victorian Village construc- tion site earlier this month, police said. According to a report a man watched from his kitchen around 6 in the morning June 6 as three men in a white van pulled up to a pile of plywood on Amber St. in the subdivision, and began loading the material. The man didn't report the incident at the time because movement of materials is com- mon on the site, police said. Three suspects were spotted at the scene: One in his 50's, described as heavy-set, five feet eight inches tall with black hair, and two younger, slimmer men. They drove off in their 1988 or 89 white GMC van with the haul, police said. Suspects entered three Hurt dog Is found By Jim Belyea Leslie Besse is trying to save a little dog's life.
