"A Family Tradition for 130 Years" IT'S FAIR TIME! The fun begins in Blackstock next weekend at 131st event The tell tale signs that the summer of '96 18 aging and fall is just around the corner are starting to ap- pear. And one of the sure signs of the season is Blackstock's annual fair, which takes place soon. On Saturday, Aug. 24 the 131st annual Black- stock Fair begins. It's billed as one of Te small- est fairs in Ontario, butt is certainly one of the best. The fun actually begins on the Friday evening (Aug. 23) at 7 p.m. when the flag drops and the Demolition Derby begins. Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children 12 years and under. Come back on Saturday and enjoy agriculture at its best. The buildings brimming with vegeta- bles, baking and home crafts open at 9:30 a.m. The colorful parade - with an Olympic theme - leaves the public school at 10:30 a.m. and arrives at the fairgrounds at approx- imately 11 a.m. The fair will then be officially opened by World Champi- on Figure Skater Donald Jackson. The rest of the day is packed full of activities for all ages. The Durham East 4-H Eee, Sheep, Swine and Rabbit Clute will be holding their Achieve- ment days. During the afternoon, you will also be able to watch the Beef Cattle com- peting and the all breed Dairy Cattle shows. Be sure to go into the arena and visit the baby farm animal display. Entertainment at the fair keeps you smiling. Strolling outside will be the magiéal Michael Ross and the ta Saxo- phones Plus. The Mundell family will be performing all day if you wish to sit and relax. Inside the Recreation Cente: enjoy the cooking demonstrations of Karen Witty. Children's enter- tainers The Stylamanders and the Blackstock Karate Club will also be on stage. At 3:30 p.m. the Cham- pion Chocolate Cake and Cherry Pie will be auc- tioned off. This will be fol- lowed by the ever popular Media Miiking Contest. Later in the afternoon, the Horse Pull will begin. You will also be able to purchase some prize win- ning baking at 5:30 p.m. Be sure to go up the street to the Blackstock United Church Beef Sup- per. It sure beats cooking! To end your day, there will be a dance at the Rec- reation Centre. Music will be provided by KX96 FM - morning host Jerry Arch- er. Admission is $5 per person.
