Port Perry Mr. "Tha A Bit of our History... After 40 years in the contracting business, there really isn't that much that Glenn and Donna Van Camp haven't experienced, during both good and bad economic times. With 1996 yet another anniversary year, they look back on their own history knowing all the hard work has been worth it. VanCamp Contracting began in 1956 when twenty- one year old Glenn bought an old Allis Chalmers front-end loader from his father Harry and started his own business with his wife Donna. Originally the operation was based in their home on Shanley Street in Port Perry. From meager beginnings, VanCamp Contracting has grown over the years into a thriving business with 10 employees currently on staff and well over one million dollars in construction equipment. Their three sons, Bill, Robert & Paul have also worked at the family business at some time during their growing years. Bill, who is currently vice president and general manager, has been with the company for the past 25 years. One of the highlights of their business was the purchase of a gravel pit near the corner of Regional « Site Development « Road Building « Sand - Gravel = Excavating « Bulldozing + Snow Removal nk You", Port Perry area for the 40 years we've been privileged to serve you. Bought in 1980, it became fully licensed for operation in 1983. Today the company draws from three of their own local pits, the second located south of Blackstock and third on Mosport Road. Each pit will be leveled and soil-dressed then returned to farmland and other usage when no longer required for construction purposes. But times have also shared some harsh realities with local businesses such as VanCamp's, as 1981 saw interest rates soaring as high as 23 percent. As commercial construction came almost to a hal, they adapted well and for the next few years the business directed its resources to farm and road construction to survive the tough economic times. VanCamp Contracting has been fortunate to have the solid foundation of many dedicated employees over the years. Those who have served the company long term are: ; Roy Freeman 40 years; Jim Tremblay 25 yrs; Bob Bell 15 yrs; Dan Blundell 12 yrs; Ralph Blundell 12 yrs; and John Vugts 11 yrs. Today, Glenn, Donna and Bill look back on their past of four decades with a lot of pride. Glenn still believes the business succeeded mostly due to the . basics of hard work and perseverance. 90 Vanedward Drive, | CONTRACTING LTD.
