"A Family Tradition for 130 Years" By Jim Belyea Special to the Star The arts take over the * community for the next four days as Uxbridge Cel- ebration of the Arts ie its 11th year. Uxbridge resident Ken- neth Welsh will receive a special tribute during the evening gala, RL in the Music Hall. Tickets are still available for the gala, which features a screening of Margaret's Museum, the film in which Mr. Welsh's performance earned him a Genie as Best Supporting actor. The movie's director and composer will be at the gala which will see wine and "Food as Art" served after the film. The celebration begins, Wednesday with the first of three organ recitals be- ing held in St. Andrew's- Chalmers Presbyterian Church. Each recital runs from noon to 1 p.m. On Thursday, the concert moves to Trinity United Church, and Friday 'sisin St. Paul's aa Church. Thursday is night in Uxbridge Music Hall featuring Tim Wynne-Jones reading from his Governor Gener- who is an act of heroism? Anne Michaels will read from Fugitive Pieces and Charles nd author of TheyLast House of Ulster, will read from his latest novel, Butterfly Lovers. Friday the Music Hall lives up to its name as Symphony Winds, nine wind players from the To- ronto Symphony Orches- tra take to the stage dur- ing music night. An art exhibition runs Saturday at Uxbridge Sec- ondary School. Included in the show will be a large photograph exhibition in- cluding pictures by profes- sionals as well as ama- teurs. Nine artists will be con- ducting mini-studio. and performing demonstra- tions. The photographer will be holding dark room demonstrations as well. While at the art show, check out the fine water- color painting by Clarence Titcombe. It's been donat- ed for a silent auction over the weekend. Art show visitors will also be treat- ed to music, coffee and re- freshments. The studio tour and sale (bring your cheque book) in runs Saturday and Sun- day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as Ch featuring 24 stops. Many studios will have guest artists and their works on site. While on the stidio tour, visitors are encour- aged to drop by Foster Me- morial along Regional Road 1, north of ond Road where the landmark will be recognized with a special historic plaque. The historic dedication ceremony runs from 1 to 1:30 p.m. and Uxbridge- Scott Museum curator Al- lan McGillivray will re- count the history of the memorial.
