ae Vol. 130 No. 47 Merger committee begins search for: new hospital CEO By Jeff Mitchell Ay Perry Star The committee that's guiding Port Perry's hospital toward its merger next year with Uxbridge will soon begin the search for a Chief Executive Officer. Jerry Taylor, president of the hospital board at Community Mereal here and a member of the eight-person committee work- ing on the merger with Cottage Hospital in Uxbridge, said in a recent interview that a search consultant could soon be hired. That head hunter would be charged with the responsibility of recommending an appropriate short list of candidates for the new CEO. The job will be a challenging one, said Mr. Taylor, as the new officer will have to oversee not just hospital operations here, but the merger of two long- _standing hospitals. Community Memorial et Cottage made the decision to merge this summer, and have set a deadline of next April 1 for the exercise to be complete. Boards here and in Uxbridge took the step to deal with greatly reduced rat funding, and province-wide reddructuring that is seeing the province recommend mergers and closures in commu- nities throughout Ontario. "We're looking for a special person who is rural and commu- nity oriented," said Mr. Taylor. "This person has to make staff at both PE itals comfortable. There's no Pr to it (the new CEO) has got to blend things together." Analysis of staffing and ser- vices in both communities will have to be carried out, said Mr. Taylor. "We don't expect the CEO to come in and cut and hack and slash like a madman." The new LEO will be paid" between $90,000 and $110,000. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the concept of sports pools. They're harmless, seal they require excellent strategy skills, money management, healthy competition ...and old fashioned luck. John McCourt, who enters a number of pools annually, sums it up like this: "I have as much chance as anyone else." There are many types of pools floating around out there, and each of them has its own distinct features.
