"A Family Taguion for 130 Years" 4-H Club holds its annual awards night By Barbara Weese, Rural Community Advisor The Durnam West 4-H Association held their an- nual Awards night in'Ux- bridge on Qct. 11. At this time, the summer 4-H clubs received their com- pletion awards as well as numerous special awards. As well, several awards were presented to mem- bers and leaders for their contributions to the 4-H program. A highlight of the eve- ning was the presentation of the Farm Credit Out- standing 4-H Member of the Year Award to Philip Mcleod, Sunderland. As® well as completing 33 pro- jects in a variety of 4-H project areas, Philip has acted as a 4-H Leader in Farm Machinery and Plowing and has been a di- rector on the Durham West 4-H Association. Other award winners included Mary Helms, Sunderland as Press Re- porter of the Year. This award was sponsored by the Durham West Junior Farmers. Winners of the Baldwin Trophy Sales awards for Top Secretar- ies of -the Year were Heather Ferguson, Sun- derland, Dale Phillips, Sunderland and Jennifer Smith, Port Perry. Receiving recognition for completion of 24 4-H projects were Shari Batty, Spooky fun on tap For a fun, exciting and safe outing for kids, bring them to Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village for an evening of spooks and treats from Saturday, Oct. 19 to Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Each night the ghosts and goblins come out of hiding and haunt Cullen Gardens. Children come from all over dressed in costume to join in the fun of trick or treating and be- ing spooked as they wan- der through the spooky trail. Even adults dress up to keep in the spirit of things. Special effects, sound, lighting and eerie props transform the tranquil garden into a Halloween thrill. It's your Thing.
