"A Family Tradition for 130 Years" Sp Malmont Atoms Malmont Farm Atoms had a busy week with four games on the road. On Oct. 23 the first was in Oshawa to face the Oilers in an exhibitjon match. Af- ter a scoreless first Port got on the board when Jeff Talmey lugged the puck over the line and passed to Shane Jeffrey. Shane made a nice centering pass and Chet Martin's one-timer went in. As Port kept the pressure on in the second, the puck came back to Derek Goreski on the point, whose hard wrist shot was kicked out, but Mike Lycett dug away and Justin Shinn knocked in the rebound. Port got caught with a man short and Oshawa made it 2-1. The Malmont crew held on for the win. The following night ac- tion was in Uxbridge. Port put the pressure on right. away with good efforts by Keenan Geer, Pat Lewis, and Jordan Froats. Our defense of Joey Lane, Dan- ny Halward, Goreski, Jef- frey and Justin Koury worked hard clearing and checking in front of our net. Scott Honey made some spectacular saves. Uxbridge was a great and skilled opponent 'and earned the 2-0 win. Our third game, in three nights, was in Stouffville. Malmont stepped it up a notch and Koury led the way. Stouffville had a great chance but Leo Tail- lon was hot and kicked it out to Lycett. Mike sent Koury on his way, blowing by the defense and tucking itin. Our next goal was the result of heads-up pass- ing. Lycett over to Tal- mey, then Jeff found Lane open in front and bang, it was in. Koury was on fire and mushed the puck down the ice again for a shot. Talmey banged at one rebound and then Shinn got the second re- bound and in it went to makeit 3-0. The team went on to work hard to preserve the shutout. After a well-earned day off Malmont went to Oshawa to meet the Flames. . Oshawa scored first but Port came right back as Matt Roth passed to Koury. Justin's nice pass put Chet Martin in the clear, and a quick deke finished the play. Oshawa pulled ahead again, but Kevin Robins came roaring back, set up Talmey, who scored from his knees. Malmont took the lead when Martin's pass found Koury and he fed Shinn for the goal. It was then Oshawa's turn to tie it. Midway through the third, with a man in the box, Robins tipped in a Roth shot to take the lead. Two more quick Port goals followed allowing Mal- mont to cruise to the win. The first one, Killer Hal- ward passed to Shinn who dumped it out front to Martin, who found it a home. The second one, Roth tucked it in after a pass from Lycett. Malmont Farms has a break until a tournament in Huntsville Nov. 1-3. Legionnaires split two Legionnaires3 Oshawa 1 Noscoringin the first period. Port opened with a goal by Dave Halward from Jeff Tarbotton. Oshawa tied it up on a powerplay goal. Af- ter that it was all Port as an excellent passing play from Gerrard Timmers to Tarbotton to Halward and bang into the net. Matt Skerratt scored unassisted with 27 seconds left in second to end the scoring. Tight checking and good defensive play resulted in a scoreless third period. Solid goaltending by Shane Fischer and D'arcy Stephens rounded out the team effort. Good work boys. by John B. McClelland Special to the Port Perry Star The Port Perry ModJacks put together two victories over the weekend to give them nine points in this young Junior C season on a record of four wins, two losses and one draw. 3 Sunday night on home ice, MoJacks got a goal midway through the final period to snap a 3-3 deadlock en route to a 4-3 victory over the Lakefield Chiefs. And on Friday night, they got the best of Sutton Ice in a 2-0 victory at the new arena in Keswick. The two weekend wins give the green and white a modest three game undéfeated streak and head coach Chic Carnegie is more than happy to see the points go into the book. The story for the MoJacks so far this deason has been the brilliant work of netminder Paul Roberts. The 2-0 win over Sutton was his second shut-out in § i six starts ROBERTS and he was the difference in this game. Likewise, Sunday night against Lakefield. Roberts faced 46 pucks in the 4-3 win and were it not for his stellar work, the Chiefs would have taken the two points back to Lakefield with them, a fact that certainly didn't escape the attention of Carnegie following the match. : "We were fortunate to get the two points, especially after the way we played in the second period," he said, noting that ModJacks were ont-shot 18-5 in the middle stanza. The 21-year old Roberts, sporting a pair of borrowed goal pads while his own are in the shop for repairs, came up with big save after big save and really didn't get a whole lot of help from his mates as they allowed the Chiefs to roam at will in the MoJack zone. The result was a lot of scoring chances Pineridge Atoms lose 8-1 decision ORTS ModJacks pick up ~ busy on the road |to extend win streak from the "red zone." oF "The guys were not pl positional hockey. They wi running around all over the pla out there tonight," lamen: Carnegie, adding he would like put a rope on some of them to } them in their positions. Still, hot goaltending can carry a team as every coach knows, but Carnegie has to be concerned if Roberts happens to hit a cold snap." SENECHAL ModJacks opened a 2-0 lead in the first off markers by Todd Stirling and Ryan Speake before the Chiefs replied late in the period when 7 Shawn Hatfield seemed to fool Me Roberts on a long shot from the ) left point. a : They upped 'the margin to 3-1 early in the second as Kevin Doyle i fired his third of the campaign--a long slap shot from just inside the blue line that hand-cuffed Chiefs netminder Glen Caley. FH Chiefs dominated the middle Li frame from that point on, and gam scored twice in a short span late in He'll the period to work the score to 3-3. the John Tkola did the damage on both pow: goals for the visitors, one off a been deflection and the other from the coup slot as he was left all by his lonesome without a MoJack in cam sight. Je What proved to be the game winner for the MoJacks came just after the mid-point in the third when Darryl Senachal streaked for the crease as John Fraser fired from inside the blue line. An "Good things happen when you got the crease" is a phrase often heard from HNIC commentator Harry Neale,'and that's exactly | what happened on this play. For Senachal, who timed his arrival at the crease perfectly, it was his second of the season. 7 p.m Roberts came up with his best conti save of the game in the third as he the M stuck out a right foot and just got the his toe on a point-blank shot that the g was headed for the back of the net. Legionnaires 3-Cobourg 4 ain no scoring in the first as each team worked hard to open up the game. In the second, goals by Joe Schembni and Trevor Lance, with both assisted by Steve MacLennan resulted in a two all tie at the end . of two. Cobourg got two more, one on a breakaway after stepping out of the penalty box. Tarbotton closed the gap with an unassisted marker. All the boys played hard trying to get the tie, when the game ended two minutes early. Nice comeback. Try boys, we'll get em next time. P.S. Excellent glove saves by Darcy kept the game close. On Oct. 23 the Pine- ridge Atoms travelled to Millbrook for their match. Mark Carnaghan started the game in net. Port started off strong with "Wildman" Jesse Mullins getting our first and only goal of the game assisted by Cassidy Weber. In the second Nelson Langmaid worked hard saving a breakaway. De- spite efforts by the defense and forwards the stronger Millbrook team went on ahead and scored five more. Alex Nicolaou came into the net in the second half. Kyle Mullins and Matt Kamminga worked hard to get the puck into Millbrook's end but could not score with the gamé ending 8-1 for Millbrook. On Oct. 24 Pineridge played Omemee. Nicolaou started the game between the pipes. Port got on the board early in the game with a goal by Jessie Mis- chian assisted by Lang- maid.
