10- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 5, 1996 CHS thanks local | volunteers for help By Jason Logan Port Perry Star Three local men were recognized last week for their contribution to a pro- Ject at Cartwright High School. A sign was recently erected outside of the school to show apprecia- tion for Jim Williams of Jim's Excavating, Bob Strong of Bob Strong Con- struction and Jim Martyn of Martyn Haulage, all of whom donated their time, equipment and expertise to the school last year to construct a paved hard court area behind the school. The sign also recognizes the Blackstock Lions Club and the Blackstock Curl- ing Club, whose members donated money enabling the school to include two basketball nets on the court. The hard court not only allows students to play basketball, but to play bail hockey and other sports that require a hard sur- face. Cartwright principal Leo Plue expressed grati- tude on behalf of the school for the time and ef- fort put forth by the three men, and the donations by the local organizations. - The project was funded by the Durham Board of Education.
