26- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 5, 1996 Several members of the Greenbank Church congrega- tion attended Anniversary at Seagrave United Church on Sunday. Special tusic by the choir and guest soloist Mary Wilson of Sonya was enjoyed by all in attendance. Next Sunday, church ser- vices resume in Greenbank United Church at 11:15 a.m. with Sunday School at the same time. Muffins and coffee and a social time will be held before church in the Sunday School rooms starting at 10:15 a.m. and all are welcome. Students, Grades 1-13 - if you are interested in being part of the Sunday School Christmas program the next As Nov. 11 approaches please do not forget to buy a poppy. The Robinglade Ladies Group meets Nov. 14 at Sandy MecIntosh's on Brunon Drive. The topic is "Home Fine Crafts." As usual new mem- bers are always welcome. Please call Diane Runcieman for details at 985-0012. Happy birthday greetings this week to Karen Huestis, Donna Wanamaker, Ona Short and Rev. David Shep- herd. Seagrave Church News Rev. Barry Pogue of Oshawa was the guest speaker at the Seagrave Church 89th anni- versary service. His message was on "The Good News." He told us how the Bible has be- come available to all. Martin Luther and others translated it into other lan- guages in order that all could read it. It is an open book for all faiths. Since his retirement from Durham College where he taught social science and or- ganizational behavior, Rev. Pogue has been serving as an interim minister. He ex- plained the Oshawa Presby- tery Resource Centre which he has helped to start. It is in Northminster United Church in Oshawa. The public can buy church books and other sup- plies on Monday and Wednes- days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. He had a display of books for the congregation to examine and purchase. ; The choir sang "Hymn of Praise" and Mary Wilson of Pinedale sang a solo "I Asked The Lord," accompanied by the Benefit for Trevor Is planned for next Friday night > PORT PERRY STAR <. RURAL R Lions hosting a pub hight practise will be after church next Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in 'the church basement. The afternoon U.C.W. will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the church at 1:30 p.m. and the Evening U.C.W. have théir meeting the same day at 8 p.m. All ladies of the commu- nity are invited to attend either of these meetings. We send get well wishes to Mel McGee who is recovering from recent surgery in Oshawa Hospital, and get well wishes to Norrine Cook who is in Markham-Stouffville Hospital. We hope both are soon able to be up and about. Next Friday evening the monthly euchre party will be Seagrave Ann Sandiford organist Muriel Jebson. At assembly time Rev. Shep- herd and Charlene Shepherd read the story of "Old Turtle." As the animals, birds, trees, wind and waterfalls can be gentle or powerful...God can also be both gentle and power- ful. A social hour followed the service. This Sunday the Remem- brance Day Service will be at the regular time of 10 a.m. Men don't forget the men's monthly breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the regular time. Note: The UCW meeting has been changed to Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at the home of Jesse and Fred Nobbs in Little Britain. A benefit musical program for Trevor Szewerda organized by Alex Ingram will be held on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Seagrave United Church. It will feature Gary Tummons big band.
