"A Family Tradition for 130 Years" "Common sense will solve sn From Page 6 buy their permit from one of the local clubs in Durham Region. Also last year, there were 105,000 permits sold in the province of Ontario, and each snowmobile must pay asking for some co-opera- tion and common sense when riding through your area to get to the designated trails or lake area. For Scugog council to pass more bylaws that are answer. Their present bylaws were not enforced in the past or perhaps these complaints would not have directed at local coun- cil members last year. We are adults and should be able to co-exist if those ynenforceable is not the the M.T.O. $15 to yearly validate the registration for a total of $1,575 that the province receives; and not one penny is returned to the sport. The trails system that exists in Ontario is a 100 per cent user pay by the snow- mobiler purchasing the per- mit, with the bulk of the funds staying with the club that s the permit. All the clubs in the province are members of the O.FS.C. (Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs) which is an elected body of members who represent our interests in the sport. There are some facts that you will find informative and maybe it will indicate to those of you who are not familiar with the sport the impact that snowmobiling has in Ontario and the Port Perry area: There are 190,000 family snowmobilers as members of the O.F.S.C. In the 1995-96 season it was estimated that $652,000,000 were spent in the province in snowmobile related spending. There was a total of $12,000,000 spent by snow- mobile clubs on trail opera- tions dnd grooming expens- es in the province last season. $105,000 was allotted for environmental funds last season. Organized snowmobiling has a greater economic impact on Ontario than trade with Russia. Organized snowmobiling has an enormous effect on the province, and unless you are a part of the sport, you probably are not aware of the scope and size and financial impact that we members of the O.F.S.C., and the positive impact. It is truly a shame that a few can cause so much trou- ble for the masses, and I believe that the ones that complain know who their neighbors are, and they know who is causing the problems. Do not paint all of us with the same brush, but let's deal with those few pro- blem areas and approach your neighbor in a rational manner, and maybe the pro- blems will be resolved by PERFORMANCE DEALERS YOUR PONTIAC '97 Pontiac Sunfire Coupe 229" 2.2 litre LY4 MFI engines 5-speed manua pel transmission.
