Janice MacKenzie was the scripture reader. Rev. Shearman's sermon was about "Risky Business." The collection was taken by June Archer and assisted by Arnold Williams. Friends in the Port Perry Hospital are Mabel Cawker and Milton Stephenson. The annual Variety Night at the Nestleton United Church is Friday, Dec. 6 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The church group is still looking for more entertainers and also articles to be donated for the auction. If you can help this cause, please call Sonn Mairs at 986-5382 or Barb Weir at 986-4630. Nestleton Presbyterian Church On Sunday, Nov. 17 the regu- lar church service was held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Wm. Fairley at the pulpit. The organist was Joyce Taylor and ushers were George Kleinjon and Graham Ham. The Biblical name Rev. Fairley spoke about, to the. Sunday School, was "Deborah." Responsive Psalm was #123 and Scripture readings were from Judges 4: 1-9 and St. Matthew 25: 14-30. In the sermon, Rev. Fairley spoke of the firm stand taken by Deborah as she led the Israelites, with Barak, to deliver Congratulations lunch was enjoyed im the Sunday School room. The church calendars for 1997 are now available. Next Sunday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. will be the next regular service. Blue Ray Chapter On Nov. 14 pH officers were present for the first meeting of 1996/97. A new member was wel- come by affiliation. Plans are underway for some new activi- ties. The first, of which was a Court Whist Party and a craft and bake table on Friday, Nov. 15. This endeavor was very suc- cessful with 12 tables of Court Whist played. The craft and bake table were successful. Many prizes were won and a beautiful lunch served at the close of the evening. Nancy Metcalf and Jennifer Arbuckle represented . the Durham Central Fair. It was a great day for those standing outside to be watching. On Sunday, Sov. 24 'Cartwright High School Senior Band is presenting their "Christ- mas in the Country Craft Sale" at the Blackstock Rec. Centre. The time is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $1 with the proceeds going to the senior band's trip to Washington in the spring. There will be a bake table, a draw for a basket filled with goodies and various crafts made by local artists. There is also lunch being served. Hope to see you there. The Royal Winter Fair wound up this past eekend. Many local people/took part in the Royal in all sorts of events from - exhibiting animals, square danc- ing, public speaking or just to enjoy the sights of 'the fair. Jennifer and Colleen enjoyed the horse show on Friday night along with Clarence and Grace Bajema. A good show was put on with the highlights being the Budweiser eight horse hitch of clydesdales. to the Youth Group and leaders who cooked and served a delicious break- fast at the church on Sunday. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, muffins, toast, jam, juice and coffee was the menu and diet or no diet, eve- ; ryone who was there did not go away hungry. Church service at Greenbank United Church was the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, and a reception for new members, Brian and Diane Jones who were on transfer from Kedron United Church. They were welcomed by the chairman of the session, Hugh Baird and the congregation. Next Sunday, Nov. 24 church service will be at 11:15 with Sunday School at the same time. Everyone is welcome to attend and new faces are requested. The hall board has asked me to remind you that a good way to start the holiday season would be to get a few friends and come to the Greenbank Hall for an evening of dancing, great prizes and a delicious buffet. So, for $6 come out and support the Lions Club who are working for the betterment of our community. Last Saturday, Art and Pearl Couves spent an enjoyable afternoon at their daughter and son- in-laws Lillian and Danny Reesor, Agincourt with family and friends to help them celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary. Lillian and Danny served a lovely lunch with daughter Betty Heard, Oshawa making and decorating the cake. Then in the evening some of the family, along with Art and Pearl enjoyed a delicious din- ner at the Swiss Chalet.
