McClelland The Port Perry Star Bassmania has been given the green light to use municipal property at the Port Perry waterfront for two live release bass tournaments next sum- mer. Scugog's Parks and Rec- reation committee agreed Monday morning to grant permission to put bleach- ers in Palmer Park, but there are some conditions. Firstly, the tournament must pay Scugog $200 per day to cover such costs as clean-up by municipal parks staff; and the tour- nament organizers must agree to allow the Kawar- tha Fisheries Association (KFA) to set regulations for the tournaments scheduled for June 28-29 ModJacks sticks hot ove and Sept. 20-21. Getting the KFA active- ly involved in live release tournaments held on Lake Scugog was an important consideration in the Parks committee's decision to give permission for use of township property. "The township can't stop these' tournaments, but we did not want to seem to be indirectly en- dorsing something that might harm the fish or the lake," said committee chair Karen Puckrin at Monday's meeting. Simms, in his first year with the green and white, fired two on Saturday night in a 10-3 win over Brighton Buzz, then had four more Sunday night in an 11-5 romp over the Bobcaygeon Bullets at the Scugog Arena. Coupled with a 3-2 overtime win earlier in the week over Lakefield Chiefs, it was a highly profitable three games for the MoJacks as the six points moved them to ROB SIMMS within one of the Chiefs and they still have two gamesin hand over Lakefield. On Sunday night in front of the smallest crowd of the season at the Scugog Arena, MoJacks hardly worked up a sweat as they jumped to a4-0 lead over the last place \) Bullets by the end of the first period. Tom Chambers got them going just four minutes into the period as he put a soft one between the skates of Marty Mullins who was promptly yanked in favour of Jeff Merrick. But Merrick didn't have a lot of success either as Simms, Kevin Doyle and Barry Forth all used the power * play to give MoJacks what looked like a comfortable 4-0 lead. Simms got his second of the game early in the middle frame, again on the power play, on a very pretty three way passing play. Doyle fed the puck to Matt Pyke at the top of the face-off circle and he dished to Simms, who put anifty move on Merrick before slipping a back-hand into the cage. Late in the period, the teams continued to add tothe scoresheet as Rosko and Falls clicked for the 'Cage and Todd Stirling, Matt Pyke and Scott Heasman did the damage for the MoJacks. On Saturday night in Brighton, Kevin Doyle led the scoring in the 10-3 victory with Simms getting a pair and singles going to Dan Leclair, Vince Farano, Scott Heasman, Todd Stirling, and John Fraser.
