"A Family Tradition for 130 Years" _RuURAI The First Sunday of Advent was celebrated at Greenbank United Church with the Advent Candle being lit by Doug and Joyce Larmer and family, also Darryl and Laura Pelletier wh the flame on the Sunday School banner. The singing of Christmas music by the congre- gation and the choirs anthem also Rev. Shepherd's sermon "God Help Us" was the Hope for the Advent Season. Following the service the Sunday School joined the con- gregation giving them decora- tions so everyone helped to dec- orate the Christmas Tree while Christmas carols were sung. Next Sunday, Dec. 8 will be White gift Sunday and you are asked to bring unwrapped non- perishable food. The Candle of Peace will be lit and everyone is invited fo join in worship at 11:15 a.m. and Sunday, School at the same time. If you would like to remember a loved one by placing a poinset- tia in the church for the Christ- mas season, please call Barb Ward at 985-3903 or Val Hunt- er 985-3586 before Dec. 8. The Fidelis Unit, U.C.W. will hold their Christmas meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 12: 36 p.m. with a i luck luncheon. Following this social hour there will be a slide presentation by Rev. Rodgers on his trip to the Holy Ts All ladies of 8 com- munity are welcome to attend. This is the week that every- one will be able to see the much talked abut "Christmas Cele- bration with Ms. Funfiddle." So come to the church on Thurs- day, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and see what this is all oes Children from Grade 1 and up, (I hear there is a band too), have been doing a lot of practising for this evening, so they are inviting * everyone to come and join in this fun time. I have also heard that Santa Claus has been con- tacted and says he will be there. The Christmas euchre party will be held in Greenbank Hall Friday evening Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. This is a special evening so eve- ryone is welcome to attend. Greenbank P.S. News The girls volleyball team fin- ished opi) in es family of schools tournament on Tuesday at Sunderland RS. Good Tuck girls as you advance to play in the area finals this coming Tuesday here at Greenbank. The boys"volleyball team will host the area finals this Wednesday. Our primary stu- - dents continue to play intramu- ral volleyball during noon hour. One of our students, who vis- ited Scott Central P.S. to view their production of the Wizard of Oz had this to say about it: Plan party for New Year Caesarea I am sorry to hear Cory Grieve broke his leg while to- bogganing. Hope you are back at school soon Cory. Good luck. Turkey Roll There was a good turnout at the Caesarea Hall Saturday night for the firefighter's Tur- key roll. Glad to see Howard Hall out supporting the cause. Hope you won a turkey Howard as I know you parted with enough of those Loonies. New Year's Eve The Hall Board have decided not to hold the New Year's Eve Dance and party. They offered the hall for that night to the Firefighters Association and last Sunday they turned it down as the usual community party. As president of the Regatta As- sociation I can say I appreciate the support I received year after year from these other two or- ganizations with the ball game, the fire works and the stand by on Regatta Weekend by the fire- fighters. The Hall Board members do their share on the canvassing of funds and holding the small children's center on Regatta Saturday. Many thanks to both your organizations. I saw mem- bers of the Hall Board work fe- verishly to decorate the hall for the Halloween Dance, hire the live band and they ended up los- ing money. It's time we realized we are one community and we must support one another in our en- deavors of raising funds for our community needs. Should we not have a better look at what these organizations do and sup- port their causes? I'm afraid we are in a state of decay and final- ly each organization demize. Think! Saying of the Week: Charac- ter is much easier kept than re- covered. Thomas Paine Joke ofthe Week: First bride - "I have my husbgnd eating out of my hand. Second" bride - "Beats washing dishes, doesn't it." > PORT PERRY STAR <, PERRY STAR The Wizard of Oz Play By Clayton Richard M.E.
