-- "A Family Tradition for 130 Years" R Ms. Funfiddle arrived at Greenbank United Church last Thursday evening. Her Christmas celebration was quite a party. Ms. Funfiddle (Leanne Layzell) and guests Jonathan Peaceful (Brad Layzell), Sarah Lovegood (Mindy Thomson), Frances Joyheart (Katelyn Lee), Joey Hopewell (Traci Thomson) and 12 friends making up the choir were having a good time until Peace Officer Casey (Alec Stone) came to shut down the party because their permit had run out, but it wasn't long before he was part of the cele- bration. Soloists were Jessica Larmer and Jill Hunter, and helping the choir was the Puppets all dressed in their Christmas attire. Congratulations to all the people who put together this evening. All your hard work was worth the effort, and to all the actors, actresses and singers you are to be applaud- ed for a terrific evening. We began the evening with the Beginners Class singing and saying recitations, and in their own way made you smile. Then to close off the party, Santa made his visit much to the delight of young and not So young. The second Sunday of Advent was celebrated on Dec. 8 with the Postill family light- ing the Peace Candle and Robert Howsam placing the flame on the Sunday School Banner. White Gifts were placed in a manger and the Sunday School then went to their classes. Next Sunday, Dec. 15 will be church at 11:15 a.m. and Sunday School commencing at 11:25 a.m. and this is an invitation to anyone who would like to join in the Christmas Worship. Christmas Eve Services will be held in Greenbank at 7:30 p.m. and all are welcome to come and sing Christmas carols with your friends and neighbors. ; The last of the Centennial programs will be held on Dec. 29 in the church at 7:30 p.m. The Forget-Me-Nots from Richmond Hill will be provid- ing an evening of family enter- tainment. Two meaningful Christmas meetings were held last week at the church to usher in the Advent Season. Scugog Island BY KAREN DAVIS Scugog Island Women's Institute The Women's Institute are sponsoring a "silk ribbon em- broidery" course on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the board room at 0.M.A.F. on Van- edward Dr., Port Perry. The meal at Poggy's was delicious and Tony Kastelic's talk on the Internet was enjoyed by all who attended. The evening of Square Danc- ing on Friday was a great time of fun and fellowship. The toe- tapping music was provided by Bob Cawker, Bob Prentice, and Doug Barber. Everett Prentice called the dances and kept us in line. Thank you. The second service in Advent was well attended. The choir sang a beautiful anthem called "Love was Born on Christmas." The Sunday School children stayed folowing the service and - WLI. offers course performed an excellent dress re- hearsal of their pageant. The congregation met at 1 p-m. and went carolling to a few homes of our church family who find it difficult to get out to ser- vice. The Lectionary Bible Study Group will meet on Tuesday, Dec.9at 1:30 p.m. The Moms and Tots will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 9:30 a.m. Choir practice will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12at 7 p.m. The Support Group will meet on Friday, Dec. 13at 10 a.m. The Youth Group will meet on Friday, Dec. 13 at6 p.m. Manchester's Christmas at Home will be held on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Friends on the Island are invited to join this special event. The Sunday School children will be responsible for the ser- vice next Sunday, Dec. 15 at 9:45 a.m. Children are remind- ed to arrive at church at 9:15 a.m. and gather in the base- ment to get into their costumes. Our White Gifts will also be pre- sented at this service.
