HAI KARATE: Dillan Mumb MoJacks suffer as scoring touc By John B. McClelland . Port Perry Star The magical scoring touch the Port Perry MoJacks have enjoyed for the last few weeks suddenly decided to go south. Could be the weather or maybe the fact that Christmas is just around the corner. The usually reliable MoJack snipers were held to just three goals in two outings over the weekend, a 2-2 deadlock with the Bobcaygeon Bullets and a 3-1 home ice loss to the Little Britain Merchants, just their second defeat so far this season in the friendly confines of the Scugog Arena. Head coach Chic Carnegie had a quick and fairly blunt answer why his boys in green and white could manage to turn the red light just three times: lack of concentration and a less than stellar effort on the power play. "They (the players) seem to have other things on their minds, maybe it's the Christmas season," he said Sunday nwght after the Merchants took a 3-1 victory back to Little Britain with them. With ModJacks facing a tough schedule between now and the end of 1996, Carnegie said the players can look forward to extra work on the power play. "We seem to be missing one player out there (on the power play) We've got to find that one player. "We'd better pick things up or we'll be back to .500 hockey, and that's not good enough," he said, adding that kind of record may have been OK when the season started, but in recent weeks the team has played well enough to show him it should have a better than even record in the wins and losses column. Sunday night's game against the Merchants was for the most part a tight-checking affair with the teams dead- locked in a 1-1 tie for the better part of 55 minutes. Merchants got the go-ahead goal at 14:13 of the third on a complete defensive break-down deep in the MoJack zone. Defenseman Scott Heasman and Jeff Clarke, who are usu- ally adept at clearing the zone, both tried without success to get the puck out over the blue line. But it wound up on the stick of Merchant sniper Wes Gonder, and all alone in front of Paul Roberts, he put a bit of a deke on the MoJacks keeper then slipped home a back-hand for the 2-1 lead. ModJacks yanked Roberts in Dan Taylor and Mike Geer Senators. took the lead partner Christina Campsall, (two). Take home loss to Little Britain ~~ A the final minute for an extra attacker and ref Steve Dick should have got himself an assist on the empty netter by Dan Wardlaw that sealed the win for the visitors. . ModJdack Chad Kearns attempted to bank the puck off the boards in the Merchant zone to the point man, but the puck hit Dick on the leg and ended up on the stick of Brad Cann who fed it ahead to Wardlaw. He had an easy time sliding it into the vacant Modack cage. MoJacks opened the scoring midway through the first on a pretty passing play. Rob Simms collected a long pass on the right side, skipped around the lone defender and flipped home a wrist shot after waiting for Mike Beamish to go down in the goal crease. Early in the second, Chad Desjardin got the Merchants even when he slid home a shot from the side of the MoJack cage. Despite the tight checking that prevailed throughout this game, MoJacks had more than enough decent scoring chances. Early in the middle frame, Simms could have had his sec- ond of the game but just missed off a partial breakaway. A few moments later, Darryl Senachal had a co at a wide open Merch but couldn't get the lu the puck.
