The Durham Regional Police report that last week was again busy for officers and snowmobile thieves. Police report that sometime between Jan 24-26 an attempt was made at stealing a 1985 Yamaha. A Rosa St. resident says that his machine was dragged to a neighboring yard to the west where it was left. Footprints were found in the area and around the machine. | Police also received a call from a | | Simcoe St. resident when a 1995 Polaris I | went missing between Jan 23-26. | The machine was chained to a tree I | through the rear handlebar, which was | | removed. Tracks were followed from the yard | down to Lake Scugog where an escape I | direction could not be found. | It is believed that the machine, val- | | ued at $5,000, was hotwired. | The police also report that a 1996 | Arctic Cat was stolen from Old Simcoe I | Rd. sometime between Jan. 18-20. | The machine, valued at $6,000, was driven out of the backyard. 'More snowmobile thefts here Ice hut vandalized The Durham Police also reported that an ice hut was damaged by a snow- mobile on Jan. 21. The hut, 100 yards off shore from the Port Perry Boat Launch, was trashed. Police state that all four sides were rammed by a machine and that holes were punched in the walls. Fire at video store Police report that at approximately 7:25 a.m. on Jan. 25 officers on patrol saw smoke in a local video store. Upon arriving, an officer jumped out of the cruiser and noticed a fire at the front counter. The officer ran back to the cruiser, called for the fire department, and used a crowbar to enter the store. Using the fire extinguisher from the cruiser, the officer and his partner attempted to control the fire. It is believed that the fire was a result of an electrical problem and the store received $10,000 in smoke damage.
