"A Family Tradition for 131 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 18,1997 -17 The Compton kids are at it again. On Feb. 15 the Compton Cable TV Novice Selects entered the Can- nington Novice Tourna- ment, just a day after de- feating Oshawa LNHL Canadians 4-3 in Port Perry. From the beginning it was apparent that Port Perry was determined to play a strong positional game with lots of great passing. Game one was against Harmon Cordova from Oshawa. In the first period Adam Farnley took a smooth pass from Jake Pilkey and snapped a hard shot in to start Port off with the first of his three goals this game. Shortly after, he did it again unassisted. Next, Glen Powell hit the twine on a nice setup from Brent Henry. Finally, Brent Henry ended the first peri- od with a zinger on a pret- ty passing play from Adam and Glen. Oshawa got one back early in the second period, then it was Port all the way. Adam scored from Glen, Keith Forbes from James Hobbs, Jeff Dur- ward from Danielle Beach, Glen from Keith and finally, for his third of the game as well, Glen from Brent. The game ended 9-1 for Port Perry. Hat tricks for Adam Farn- ley and Glen Powell. The second game was against Woodville. Again, the team demonstrated lessons well. Mark McCready netted the next, followed by Keith Forbes. Glen scored to close the period out on a great shoot-in from Cam O'Connor and a nice pass from Adam Farnley. Guess what! Danielle Beach scored our last goal assist- ed by Jeff Campkin. Final score: Port Perry 7 - Wood- ville 0. On to the "A" finals. Game three was for all the marbles. Our opposi- tion, a good Novice rep team from Oro had no trouble winning their pre- vious games, so we knew this was going to be tough. However, our Compton kids decided that they really wanted to win and they came out blazing. What skating, - passing and forechecking. First, Keith Forbes snapped the twine after receiving a neat pass from Chris Charron. Next Adam connected on a nice lead pass supplied by Glen. Then Spencer Mar- low decided that his line should get into the act too. He scored twice, both times from Danielle Beach and Jeff Durward. Out- standing team work. The final goal of the game was a beauty by Jeff Campkin, assisted by Alex Grncarovski and Chris Charron. Notice there were no goals for Oro? That's right. Pat Dunn and Michael Cooke teamed up for their second shutout. The score at the end of the game was Port Perry 5-0Oro 0.
