Cartwright athletes are raising funds to stay in competition | > By Angela Drew Port Perry Star The badminton and senior girls volleyball teams from Cartwright High School are fundrais- ing for various team ex- penses throughout the season . The badminton team led by coach Linda Court- ney is struggling to raise enough money for tourna- ment costs and team uni- forms. Mrs. Courtney and her team pulled together to put on a delicious break- fast in Cartwright High School's cafeteria on Val- entine's Day. Students at the school are helping the cause by paying $5 for a hot break- ~ fast, which is only put on twice a year to raise funds. Members of the badmin- ton team are learning just how difficult it is to raise money on their own. The team will also learn to work together in order to get thejob done. Also working to raise ~money for team expenses is the Senior Girls Volley- ball team. This group of 10 girls are invited to the O.F.F.S.A. tournament at the beginning of March in Chatham if they can beat the Garnier team on Feb. 26. The only problem is that the team just doesn't have the funding needed for various expenses for this trip. Like the badminton team, the senior girls have organized a fundraising event to take place in their school's cafeteria. When asked about how much money was needed for the trip, team member Dayna Macleod said, want to raise as much money as possible." The girls have already had one bake sale on Feb.7, and hope to have two more this month. The sales are scheduled for Fridays Feb.21 and Feb. 28. The team hopes to raise at least $60 with each bake sale. As well the volleyball team have also put on a 50-60 draw and raised close to $150. Both teams have put a lot of effort into raising their funds and hope to both reach their aspiring goals in the near future. p] The Pout Vevey Slav a good newspaper that just keeps getting better... | There really is a difference "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" SERVICE & BUSINESS DIRECTORY PHONE (905) 985-7383 OR FAX 985-3708 DIRECT TO YOU » WORRY FRE GUARANTEED INSTALLATIONS § 180 CASIMIR ST., PORT PERRY HEATING CO.
