"A Family Tradition for 131 Years" _ PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 25, 1997 -15 Jayson Callan Music out, Everlasting Memories in Council backs rezoning for Port bridal shop A proposal to amend the zoning on a Queen St. property to permit a bridal wear store met no opposition at a public meeting in front of Scugog council Feb. 17. Irwin Smith owns the prop- erty at 305 Queen, at the north- west corner of Simcoe. For the past 10 years it has been a music shop, first under the name Irwin Smith and more recently as Jayson Callan. Mr. Smith told council Callan wants to move to anoth- er location in the downtown core, and [Everlasting Memories bridal shop will be moving to 305 Queen St. But the zoning now in place allows only a music shop. Mr. Smith wants an amendment to allow only a bridal shop and professional offices. He is not seeking a wide open commer- cial designation, he told coun- cil. Mr. Smith said he has had inquiries from potential ten- ants looking to operate every- thing from a restaurant to a day care, all of which he turned down in favor of Everlasting Memories. Council took note of the fact the 14 parking spots are five more than the bylaw requires, and over the years Mr. Smith has allowed his parking lot to be used by persons attending functions at the two churches nearby and Town Hall 1873. And he assured council the "patrons only" parking sign now in the lot will be gone once the present tenant moves out. Council must wait seven days before granting the zoning exemption. Also at Monday's meeting, there were no objections to a zoning change for a property in the Reach/North Port Industrial Park, west of Port Perry. The amendment will allow a motor vehicle repair shop. The applicant told council he already operates a shop in the park, but needs more space. Cancer support centre IS open Cancer support is now offered at the Hearth Place in Oshawa.
