"A Family Tradition for 131 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 17, 1997 -29 Village prepared for second running of Indy The Epsom-Utica U.C.W. were hosts on Monday, June 9 to the 35th Anniversary celebra- tions of York Presbyterial U.C.W. meeting. Follow- ing cake and 1ce cream and refreshments, the service took place in the church sanctuary with Presbyterial U.C.W. Pres- ident Jean Nauta opening and introducing Rev. Bur- ton who gave the wel- come. Speaker was Rev. Jeanette Millar who relat- ed about the women of the church in the past, present and future. Our own president Elva Kerry gave a brief outline of our U.C.W. over the years. The music provided by a guest soloist was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Rev. John Burton who was in- ducted as Chair of York Presbytery on Tuesday, June 10 when members were present at a dinner in Goodwood Hall and lat- er attended the ceremony at Goodwood United Church. Darlene Christie gave a welcome speech following the dinner. We are very proud that our minister was chosen for this very important role. This Saturday all roads Scugog Shores Museum to host picnic The staff and volun- teers of the Community Nursing Home are asking community groups to get involved in their dream of a "Secret Garden" for the residents. They are hoping to create a safe, beautiful and secure area for all residents. With help from community groups their goal will be realized much sooner. Scugog Island Musicale Another evening of music and fun is planned for Sunday, June 22 at Head Memorial Church at the museum at 7:30 p.m. A collection will be taken to help support the museum Scugog Shores Museum A Teddy Bear Picnic will be held at the muse- um on Sunday, June 22. For further information call 985-3589. Scugog Island United Church A meaningful Father's Day Service was held dur- ing our regular Sunday worship. The Women's Chorus provided special music. Elaine Barber had four men participate in the message "A word about and from some fathers." Special thanks to Doug Baird, Tom Carr, George Barrass and George Samells for their thoughts. Walkers are meeting every morning at 8:45 a.m. at S.I1.U.C. to walk for 45 minutes to one hour. The Lectionary Bible Study Group will meet on Tuesday, June 17 at 1:30 p.m. at S.1.U.C. The Moms and Tots Teddy bears come to museum continue to meet on Wednesday mornings. Call Monica at 985-1248 or Shawna at 985-2142 for details of meeting place, etc. A Summer Drop In will be held on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. beginning this week and will run through the summer. This is a time for fellowship and keeping in touch over the summer months. The Orchestra will be providing special music at our service on Sunday, June 22. The Strawberry Supper is scheduled for Sunday, July 6 at the Scugog Island Hall. Settings are at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. For tickets call Bonnie at 985-7426.
